You are sorely misinformed. I've spectated at 3 world championships personally and ran parts of the courses. You need to check results bud, almost every year Africans dominate the world's for mountain running. Tough courses but yes short compared to 100 miles. However the short races are far more competitive drawing in rich talent with guys who compete professionally in marathon and track crossing over to shorter mountain races. When money shoes up in ultras they will dominate there too just watch.
Don't know about that. The only courses the Africans can win on are on roads/smooth trails. So not really off road. In any case, the races that the "World Mountain Running Championships" are done on beautiful, easy trails and only 6-7 miles!! Thats a far cry from what the real mountain run is. What is it maybe a 1,000 foot vertical gain overall? Really?
Africans have been doing trails for 20-30 years in Europe. If they could have snapped up a sponsorship deal by winning a few , surely they would have by now. You think they wouldn't want to have $300k sponsorship deals that Jornet has? Gimme a break. They'll never amount to anything in races like the UTMB.
