People from time to time post about power and running.

Thanks! This was great. I'm already familiar with the model and use it, but hearing Andy explain things sheds a lot of light on the subject.
Whether people believe in running power or not, Stryd has a lot of potential and already offers quite a bit.
Met Coggan once. He's an insufferable arrogant douche.
10 extra grams on my shoe (significant energy cost) for information overload that hasn't been shown to help improve training, another proprietary USB cord and device I have to charge... for only 199
no thanks.

Lol, 10g is significant? And it's wireless charging for Stryd summit and nonprop USB for Stryd live. People who are intellectually lazy claim information overload. Or dumb people. Go on their FB page...lots of qualified people are using it.
Scam of the highest order.
People they’re paying to use it and pretend it provides any bit of benefit at all.
The thing’s a complete waste of money.
10 g, on a shoe, is absolutely a significant energy cost.

"qualified" LOL
Show me one, just one, world class level runner using it. Not some shill coach or sub elite getting an endorsement. Give me a just one true world class athlete... one. ONE.

That right there. Stryd is getting pushed to triathletes, because anyone that does triathlon is a rich middle-age dude with lots of disposable income. That should tell you right there it's a scam gadget.
"But if its a scam, why do all the cyclists, including pros, use a power meter ?"
Bikes have grears and are inefficient (there are losses between your legs and the road). Humans don't.

Cyclists use powermeters that actually measure power. Stryd doesn't measure power. That is a FACT, scambro!
Stryd will only ever be so popular with runners because runners are stupid enough to think RPE is king. In cycling you have to be smart to be able to maintain your bike enough to keep it on the road, so they have enough brain power to use power meters.

FIFY
Lol, why are you trying to hard to sh!t on something you don't even use? Since I understand how Stryd works and its inherent limitations as a running "power" meter, it has its place in training, especially if you don't train on a track or on flat terrain. On a track, why would you need anything other than a stopwatch? I don't think Stryd is marketing to track users.
I mean, just because it may not give "real" power expenditure, it gives repeatable expenditure for similar efforts, so for me, that's good enough. $200 for Stryd is pretty cheap compared to the $650 I paid for the power meter for my bike.
Thanks for your opinion, though. ;)

Yeah, and if you have half a brain and can read, you'll know Stryd isn't measuring anything except for foot accelerations and rotations, and then estimating power based on accurate pace and distance. Their whitepaper is freely available and it gives some basis for their algorithm and how it works. And Stryd correlates at 95% or higher with measurements from a force-plate based treadmill for power, GCT, and VO.
I mean, who would think it's measuring power anyways? How would it? No strain-gauges or pressure transducers or anything. But that doesn't make it a scam or not useful.

Because you are blatantly spamming this forum with your overpriced piece of dog poo meter.

Who is 'you'? I'm just some random guy who bought Stryd last May and have been using it for almost a year.
And I didn't even start this thread...I'm just participating.
You're trying to hard to see something that isn't there. Thanks, though.

Yes sure. Cool story bro.
I like it in theory for the run stress score data. It’s a nice way of translating distances run at various paces into one overall workload measure. It’s useful for seeing how big and workout or week was beyond the miles run.
The uphill power data is interesting too. It gives me a sense of how I’m improving throughout the course of my hill rep sessions. If I lived near a long hill (3+ miles) it would be cool to do uphill tempos by power.
Run form is cool too. Basically shoes how youre efficiency is changes throughout a race.
I don’t really get why one would train by power though. Basically they have do some 10 minute time trial and then you derive your power paces from that. I don’t see how that’s any different than racing a 3k or 5k and then using McMillan or Daniels to derive your training paces.
