Hello guys! I'm new to this subreddit, but was looking for advice on breaking 4 minutes in the 1500m. As for the basic information:
Age: 21
Sex: Male
Competition: NIRCA Club Runner
MPW: 35-40 currently with 2 workouts per week
Days run per week: 6
Workout Type 1: Longer intervals (400 to 1,000) at mile to 5K pace depending on the day
Workout Type 2: Speed work intervals (200 to 600s) at 800m to mile pace.
Peak mileage: 60 miles during pre-XC season in March
So recently, I just finished my indoor season, and I'd say it was extremely successful. I PRed in the indoor mile on a 300m track in 4:24.99 (Previous PR was 4:31.28). I also ran 1:59.55 in the 800m, which was my first time breaking 2 minutes. I now have about 6 1/2 weeks until my outdoor season begins. So, I was wondering what advice I could get about working to break 4 minutes in the 1500m.
Last season, I ran 4:08.54 as my outdoor 1500m PR, so I'm aware that this would be a pretty big drop in time. First of all, based on my indoor mile PR, is it possible for me to break 4 minutes in the 1500m? Is there anything that I can do to prepare in the next few weeks? Would increasing mileage be beneficial or should I stick with my current mileage? Do you have any advice on how I can adjust my workouts? Do you have any racing strategy advice on how to successfully do this this?
I'd appreciate any advice that you could give me. Let me know if you have any additional questions about my training or previous PRs to help give the best advice possible. Thanks so much guys!
