I love robert and consider him a true friend but...yes, that was a silly comment. I can understand the curiosity, what with the proliferation of technology in just about every sport but...would never work here.

Of course it would help. If you heard that you were already ahead by a margin, then you don't take need to take risks.

In these events there is no being ahead by a wide margin. A wide margin is .5. If you are not aggressive you will lose. Trust me, it would NEVER be beneficial. Again, you know when you messed up and you also know when you are having a clean run. This is not running guys.
When you are running a clean race you have to keep the rhythm going. You can lose a second easily with one late gate. The speed loss takes a few gates to overcome.

I asked thinking they could Have someone watching the electronic timer and telling them to hey are behind. Then they could just go for broke and take more risks. Bode Miller is always talking about taking risks.
When you are behind it means you were out of position on a gate or a series of gates. Even beginner ski racers can feel that. Then you know you have to keep your skis pointed down the run and find the best line. But, you have to do that anyway. Sometimes when the "best" line gets chewed up you have to get even tighter on it. At that level, it's tough because almost everyone has it right.
At that level, if you hold back you lose. There is no protecting a lead or trying to catch up by taking risks. You have to get it right or you'll finish in the middle of the pack.
Instead of splits, what they could do is set some target splits and then play a very loud tone that gets higher or lower in pitch depending on how far they are above or below the target, which would be set at 256hz.
They could have a computer set up to calculate it on the fly. This has to be possible if those tennis computers can decide if a ball was in or out.

Nordic skiing gets most of its intensity because of the time trial setup. You can never slack off.
Imagine Mr. Farrah had to run against the clock!
No more jogging around, and we'd see real running again.

Contact USSA and then come back here to post their reaction. It will be great entertainment.

Except there are most likely skiers going after you who could then post a faster time.
Mass starts are NOT rare.

Why not have splits or in the 400 hurdles or 400 run.
"skiers" is a broad term.
Alpine--no. That would be a horrible distraction going 80+mph
Nordic: coaches give time back either from the leader or the next skier
