You might have seen our ad on the LR Homepage, and with Weldon’s recommendation we will actually start directing that to this thread as an opportunity to answer some of the LetsRun questions/comments that have come up in other threads. I will offer a response to even the most critical questions/comments (see below). I also welcome any additional thoughts, feedback or questions. If it is genuine, I assure you it is much appreciated and will be addressed or taken into consideration as we continue to evolve RunDoyen. You can post here, or email directly.
If you haven’t checked it out yet, here is our site we launched on January 20:
Responses to prior comments from the LRC:
“It doesn't appear that Webb has any inclination for coaching or helping others except if he can make money off it. I'd shy away from him for that reason. Coaching requires empathy and a commitment to others” -Charlottesville Webb
JW- Clearly this statement comes from not only being uninformed but also without knowing Alan personally. I assure you that his motives are not strictly financial. With a couple minutes of research, you can find a plethora of examples where he has volunteered his time to various podcasts, interviews, appearances, running camps, etc. With that said, we are trying to operate a business which requires both a lot of time and personal money invested. RunDoyen simply would not be able to exist by offering everything “free”.
“if you pay 100s monthly for a "coach" ur reallllly dumb” – dumbitydumb
JW- There is no doubt that we are priced as a premium service. If you explore our site and see the 2 min demo on the FAQ page, I hope you can see how much thought (and money) we’ve put in to this to try and offer something new and unique specifically for the running community. You can also see a full 30 minute recorded session with Ryan on our Blog to see how personal, customized and engaging the experience can be.
“I still wouldn’t pay for Webb’s coaching, though. I’d be more interested in just hearing him talk about his experiences” – Trolo
“I’d be more interested in actually talking to him one on one about what it was like to live the life of a pro runner. If you are paying for time it doesn’t all just have to be specific coaching” – 42miler!
JW- No problem! You’re more than willing to talk to Alan or the other Pros about pretty much anything…of course some common sense can guide you about which topics not to approach. In the absence of common sense, we have detailed “Terms & Conditions” you can view. This is great feedback though and we will actually make this more clear on our site very soon!
“id do that as webb is my idol but I have not 500 bucks and my hs coach is fantastic” – roblox oof sound
JW- We are not trying to be a replacement for those who already have coaches. We believe that you can have a coach and still learn from others in a way that compliments your coach. Alan and the other Pros would never guide anyone in a direction that contradicts their existing coach. Btw, you don’t need $500, you can talk to Alan for $44 or any of the others for $22 for your first 30-minute video chat.
“I can appreciate what they are trying to do, but is there a market for this? “Who is their target demographic and are there enough of them to make this a viable business?” -NFW
JW- This is a great question. We’ve actually assembled a team that can hopefully appeal to many different demographics. We have “Doyens” from various disciplines, coaches and experiences to offer a diverse perspective. We don’t offer one “cookie cutter” training plan or program that is administered. Any sort of insight or advice you get on RunDoyen is genuine and authentic, directly from the individual provider (aka Doyen). We’ve tried to build very interactive profile pages that bring to life both the personality and experience of each “Doyen” to resonate and serve various types of runners.
“Someone who has never trained before and has no background in the sport frankly doesn’t need a coach who has been at the highest level. Actually, any decent high school coach would probably be a better fit than a former pro, since HS coaches are familiar with training newbies.” – Reqwer
JW- We actually have runners currently using RunDoyen across all ends of the spectrum. I assure you each “Doyen” is both excited and well prepared to work with anyone, from “newbie” to “elite”. For any level of runner, there are thousands of different places that offer training advice, personal coaching or training plans. We’re offering an option to get a personalized and custom experience that can either supplement your training or provide a "one stop shop" to get coaching from someone who knows what it takes to compete at the highest level.
RunDoyen itself is not a coaching service…rather it is a platform that enables other running professionals to offer their services and support their entrepreneurial endeavors. We’re hoping this can grow and evolve into something unique and valuable to the broader running community.
I’d be lying if I said it has been easy to acquire customers or that our business is “booming” in the first couple weeks, but we’ve had nothing but “5 star” experiences from any customer or free sessions we’ve given away in contests. In fact, our first three customers have already returned as repeat customers to purchase long-term plans. We welcome any LetsRunners to try it out. As you might have seen on our homepage, anyone’s first video chat session is currently 50% off (code: FIRST30). If for any reason you are not happy with your experience, just email us and we’ll refund you. With that said, the team that has been assembled was by careful choice and I’m confident they will each continue to offer valuable and insightful sessions and carefully curated coaching and training plans.
Please feel free to share any additional comments, criticisms, feedback, questions, thoughts, or ideas. They're all appreciated.
Thanks,
Jordan
