I guess the wind outlook has picked up a bit, but still not to bad 9mph out of the north. Looks like maybe 5 miles of the 'thon into the wind.
No big deal since I'll be drafting off of Hasay.

ADP corral is next to the elite corral, your "area" has like 3 porta johns and about 200meters of straight to warm up on. near perfect. right next to the start. will be out there in the ADP too!!!!

This will be my first Houston, but the conventional approach on weather days like this is to bring some warm thrift store clothes or other clothes you won't mind losing and to wear them in the corrals until just a couple of minutes before the race and then discarding them. If you have time to get a cheap Tyvek suit, that will usually be enough to keep you warm and you won't have to feel bad about throwing it away (

Those paperthin Tyvek suits suck for durability. I was strolling around the Nevada desert in one and fell into some radioactive rocks, tearing the suit and worrying some civilian contractors. True story....
Anyway, that’s perfect marathon weather. Ran my PR in similar conditions at Chicago, just more wind in spots. Shorts and singlet. Wear something in corral you don’t mind trashing, like sweats.

My bad! Best of luck in your next half marry or full 'thon buddy!
I ran the Vegas marathon in 2009, and it was exactly 32 degrees at the start. Maybe 35 degrees 2-3h later.
Just ran in a usual singlet and shorts. Started with a wool cap and gloves, tossed the hat at some point. Didn’t really think of temps during the race.
Arm-warmers could make sense at the start if that’s where you feel cold (I get cold hands myself) but I wouldn’t add a thing to the legs.

Thanks for the answers everyone. I’ve got plenty of old clothing that I haven’t worn in years and never will wear again, so that’s the route I will go and just toss them right before the race. That’ll get more use out of them than they get currently.
Like your You Tube videos Ben - good luck bro'
Forecast is getting more chilly, folks. Maybe 33 degrees F (0 C). Have fun freezing in the singlets.
Thank you all for this thread, running Houston as well for my first marathon and was wondering what to do. Shorts and singlet was the plan and is the plan, thanks for confirming it! Goal for me is 3 hours and I'll have the Texas socks if any of y'all are gonna be near me in Corral A.

Can anyone explain to me how the corral system works? I'm in the ADP group and this will be my first time at a major road race. I've read through the athlete guide, but I just want to hear from someone who's actually been there, done that.
For the ADP group, it says we need to be in our corral by 6:35AM. They also do not list the corral area for the elites and ADP on the map. Is it just the start line area? Is there an opportunity to shed layers right before we are escorted to the line at 6:58, or do we need to be in racing attire when we enter the corral?
Sorry if these are noob questions, but I'm a noob. That being said, I'll probably just go with a singlet, shorts, and light gloves. Maybe some arm sleeves, but likely not.
Hi,
I think the ADP group is a lot like the local elite group which I have ran in the past several years. They will bus you over to the start line from the host hotel and then take you to a special warm up area where you can shed all your clothes to your one person of support or you can leave them for the elite coordinator to take to the finish line. The elites, local elites and ADP all start in front of the regular A corral. I'll send you a copy of my schedule in a sec. GOOD LUCK!! :)

I'll be in Corral A and will look for the socks. I'm shooting for a PR, but could be a hair slower than your pace, somewhere in the 1:30-1:31 range (though sub-1:30 would be icing on the cake).
As for the singlet situation, I ran a half here in Portland (Holiday Half) at the beginning of December and the temp was about the same, 35ish. I wore a long-sleeve under my singlet and regretted it later. Gloves and hat/ear-warmers I can take off and stash easily. I will bring "throw-away" sweats for before the race, which I'll remove before the start (they donate this stuff afterwards). Once you're warmed up and standing in a crowd of people at the start, it doesn't feel as cold. Then once you get going fast, you'll stay fairly warm.
