PR: 7:58.63 from two years ago
8 weeks until first race.
Here's the training for the next two weeks and then a general outline until the race.
https://imgur.com/a/0MnXY
I've been training about 6 weeks since taking time down after some road racing in the Fall. Mostly progression runs and strides at this point. On Saturday did my first interval workout just to get used to running a bit faster.
8x1000, 200 jog in just over 60 seconds, speeding up as i got more comfortable actually
3:22.5, 3:14.1, 3:15.3, 3:13.7, 3:11.2, 3:03.6, 3:03.0, 2:57.6
some jogging and then 1x100, 3x150, 3x100 with full recovery
13.3, 20.4, 19.9, 19.4, 14.5, 13.8, 14.3
last 3 hundreds were more cruise effort
The progression run yesterday I got down to 520s and 510s. When I get past base building I usually will run the same course finishing up in 5:05 average the last 5-6 miles, so it's just easy building right now.
going to altitude in a few weeks (Dec 25th).
Racing right when I get back down (Jan 28th)
LetsRun.com 2.0 Is Here. Where can we find a sub-7:52.00 race on a banked track on Feb. 10th so we can take on the World?

Every 17 years, the cicadas come out to do their magic. The same is true for John Kellogg.
17 years after guiding Wejo, John Kellogg has come out of semi-retirement and is once again coaching an unsponsored athlete who is training in obscurity in Flagstaff. The duo hope to take on the world at World Indoors. The issue is there is a 7:52.00 qualifying standard and not that many meets that go that fast in the US that aren't on an oversized track - unless you are a big enough name to get into say a 7:30 race at the NBIGP.
So does anyone know of a sub-7:52 race in the US on Feb 10th - the last weekend for qualifying? What about the two weekends before - Feb 3 or January 27?
I'm playing the same role I played with Wejo 17 years ago - acting as an unofficial agent/manager.
I know on the 27th of January the Dr. Sander Invite is at the Armory (Former armory track invite), but don't know how fast the race will be plus that will be more of a rust buster. Any info you have is appreciated.
The next weekend - two of the bigger US meets are being held. Camel City with 80k in prize money - but it's a flat track so 752 might be tough there and Millrose. Anyone know if there is a 3k at Millrose? How hard is it to get in the B mile?
What is going on during the 10th? That's the weekend I was hoping to find a great 3k. I know the NBIGP is that weekend but that's on the IAAF tour so getting in might be tough. Anything else that weekend? Flying to Europe would be an option if we were guaranteed to get into say a 745 race.
Ideally, our guy would run the 3k rust buster on 27th, then maybe run the B mile at Millrose, then take his best shot at the 3k on the 10th.

The BU Valentine Invite is that weekend. It was won in 8:03 last year so it doesn’t seem like it’s currently quite fast enough, but given the speedy track it might be a possibility to scrap together some pacers or other high level competitors.

Why cant this runner just pace themselves? Indoor track makes this really easy because the laps are shorter so you can make corrections to your pace more often. Start practicing keeping pace in practice.
-
Or maybe move around some target dates, and race the Terrier Classic at BU on Jan 27, where the 3k had 9 guys run 8:00 or faster, with the winner being...7:52!
-
Iowa State Classic is another great option on Feb 9-10, 9 men 8:00 or under, Marc Scott and Justyn Knight running 7:47, although oversized track.

Husky invite has same oversized issue

Put the power and $$$ of letsrun.com behind the 1st Annual Letsrun Indoor Classic. Fly in an elite field, and get some NOP athletes to serve as pacers. Big prize money with time bonuses.

The Hoosier Hills Invite in at Indiana University in Bloomington would be a great meet. The meet is on February 9th and always has a fast section in the 3000 Meters. The track is a 200 Meter Banked track and does not violate any qualifying restrictions. The 2017 meet was a little down as far as times go but the 2016 Hoosier Hills 3000 Meter race was won in 7:56.

I find it slightly difficult to fathom that rojo did not know about these other races posted.

What were your splits when you solo ran a sub-7:52? -
Only two that come to mind are BU Terrier and Valentine. They could probably get in contact with the school to see about rabbits/how the fields are shaping up. I know the 3k at both meets has seen a fair share under 8 in the last few years.

Texas Tech has a brand new 200m banked indoor track and where several meets will be held around this time frame. It looks like there may be some open events according to what I see on Direct Athletics, but you should contact them to make sure.

It is a semi legitimate criticism. If the guy is ready to do something at worlds, he should be able to solo the qualifying mark. However, it obviously is mentally easier to do with some pacers.
Another issue though, is that if he ends up in a race with a bunch of people going 40+ seconds slower, he'll have to deal with lapping slower runners at the end of a hard effort on a narrow banked track. -
Is this BR?

I’ll pay for a rabbit of your choice Rojo up to $5000.

go to boston and pray that georgetown has 14 different guys pacing 200-2800

FASTTRACK NATIONAL INVITATIONAL 2.9 at Ocean Breeze in Staten Island
Last year was 8:00 and Pat Tiernan went 7:48 at the Fasttrack Last Chance last year
Might be able to get a race there, hit up the director. -
BU Valentine meet is the obvious choice. At the Mini Meet on the 16th, the 3k was won in 7:44. A MINI MEET. Pony up that trust fund money and hire some pacers. There are plenty in the area.

Bumping this up. Anyone on here in Europe? It might be cheaper to fly there for a race than to hire pacers.
Although hiring pacers and giving it a go is a good option if there are other quality racers.

I'm not sure how high the level of competition will be, but the Birmingham Crossplex will hold multiple meets around the time the athlete wants to peak. One of the best, if not the best, 200m indoor tracks in the country.
