So Jamison Ping (Grace and Lauren's younger brother) just ran 17:48 at the NXR Heartland open race...and he's apparently 9 years old. Even with his dad training him a bit, and even on an absurdly fast course, that's still extremely impressive for his age. Could he be the next prodigy??

The family enjoys running and they are good at it. So what? Why not pick on all the other parents who have kids running before HS? Would it be better for the Pings to all play football or soccer and get a few concussions every year?

The kid is 9, to run what he ran you have to train pretty seriously, same with the girls. They have been training pretty hard for years. Most young kids are playing games at that age, and they should be playing games at that age.

It seems entirely possible that they are in fact playing games as well. I see no evidence to the contrary...
I don't doubt he's doing training already, but even so to run that time is very impressive. And the course is not short, just fast

No, all Kenyans aren't running at that age.
I know of one who just laughed at that, he said he was driven to school every day, didn't even walk. Was top ten at NCAA XC and several time track all-american, sub 28 to boot.

Was told many years ago that the whole Kenyan run 6 miles to and from school everyday is something they made up to tell Western media and laugh about it when people keep reporting it. Think about it have to ask yourself why are all the schools in Kenya built so far away from villages.

You mean a pre HS kid didn't run 50 miles one way. Come on, at 5:00 per mile it is only a little over 4 hours. No big deal.?????

Who cares... I played soccer until I was 12 y.o. I never even considered playin soccer after age 12. It's just a game I played while I was a kid.
Probably the same goes for this kid. I doubt that he is considering competing in his teens. He is having fun now.
