Every elite performance of at least the last 30 years (and probably longer) deserves an asterisk. Elite running is dirty to the core. It is what it is.

I think it's pretty clear what the OP is referring to. Chicago got rid of rabbits for the race. He or she shouldhave just said Chicago stopped employing pacemakers - Rupp may have employed his own.

What does he mean by USADA investigation? Unless you have been under a rock, you should have seen this.

No one has to be under a rock to miss something on the LRC home page. Nevertheless, I'm sure Rupp and Ritz are dirty, but who is there at highest level of the sport that we think is clean? Do their performances have asterisks in the absence of positive tests or suspensions?

OP said the race "banned rabbits" and implied that Rupp did something untoward in contravention of this (nonexistent) ban. This accusation holds no water at all.

It could be true. Mr. Bett could have been instructed to pace Mr. Rupp to a relatively slow 30k. When the race developed there was no need to personally pace Mr. Rupp because the pack was running at the instructed pace on its own. In the end there was no need for a personal pacer but there was no way to predict this before the race.

I heard Galen takes lots of drugs. So many drugs...Travis told me he will be banned. From all the drugs.

As Rojos picture shows he obviously wasn't Rupps personal pacer, there are 3 other people running between the pacer and Rupp. So Rupp brought his own pacer to up the pace in a race where many of his competitors have a faster PR? Makes perfect sense!

No asterisk at all. Because:

1.) Any pacer for Rupp was a pacer for the others.

2.) Field was NOT watered down - it included the current world-record-holder (Kimetto), Stanley Biwott, and Feyisa Lilesa...and of course, Abel Kirui.

3.) USADA investigation is kind of meaningless as a talking point when you're trying to compare Rupp's win to Kenyans' wins & Ethiopians' wins, since those countries are suspected of having doping problems as well. I don't think Rupp is actually doping, but if you think he is, then you might as well suspect the other runners of the same, and it's a level playing field.

On a day where the weather was fine for running fast, only 4 or 5 guys could negative split off of a 65:50 first half? That's a joke.

It initially was full of guys who haven't run well in years and was so bad they got busted by letsrun and had to add in a few B-rate Kenyans to make it look legit. But big guns except Kirui and Rupp did nothing. Kimetto DNF and hasn't run well since 2015, Biwott has now DNFd his last 3 marathons. Who else?
