I was reading about Cam Newton and apparently he also got in trouble for calling a reporter sweetheart. Why is that offensive? My hairdresser calls me that and waitresses call me that all the time. I've never been offended.

Cause they both know there ain't nothing sweet about her heart.
It's not offensive. Stupid feminists go around being offended at just about anything and everything. Call them sweetheart and they are offended. Open the door for them and they are offended. It's ridiculous. And yes, I am a female.
Because people love to complain, that's literally the only reason.
because the correct term is "sweetie", babycakes

Please try again with something that isn't nearly as obvious.
Perhaps something like, "Why do people get bothered if you punch them in the face?" or "Why don't more people stick needles in their eyes?"

Yes, it is offensive.
No, you are not femaie.
No, you do not have an IQ above 70.
Because it's condescending, you numbskull. And I hate it when b*tches I don't know call me sweetheart or honey.

Really, then I guess your are so insecure you can't stand yourself. I am called "honey" by other adults when I purchase items at a store and let me tell you I am not a "honey". It is a figure of speech and even at my age, I don't give a crap what people call me and I don't correct them (I am old). I learned a long time ago that "sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me". Grow up and get a pair, because it is obvious you are a whinny duck....Oh, oh, I probably hurt your feelings, didn't I.....

No, not really. But I am curious as to what a "whinny duck" is? Distant relative of Winnie the Poohdle Duck perhaps?

It's only a figure of speech for women who are trying to get you to tip them a bit more by acting like your girlfriend. I know an old man like yourself is probably desperate for companionship, so I don't blame you for enjoying it.
its not sexist but it is condescending so i can understand how someone (female or male) might take offense to it.
its certainly not a big deal in the grand scheme of things though.
I'm not a woman, so I don't know. I'd say because it is usually used in a way so as to imply inferiority or naivete. I do know that I don't call women sweetheart. I also know that anyone that calls me "boss" gets punched. You's a ballerr though so you should know everything about women, no?

Calm down, sweetheart.
I called my neighbor's 2 year old daughter sweetie the other day. Should I not have?
Would you call your neighbors 2 year old son sweetheart?
We you call a male friend sweetheart?
Would you call your doctor sweetheart?
Would you call a police officer sweetheart?
Would you call your boss sweetheart?
If you answered no to any of the above questions you know that sweetheart is diminutive.

You are wrong. I believe the correct term is "sweet-cheeks."
Broads are too sensitive.

Because people like me are also sweethearts and so it shouldn't just be reserved for women.

Not too many things are.
