Is there any chance that Chris Derrick could be the next Ryan Hall?

didn't hall transition really well and quickly from the span of his senior track season and into the roads? maybe I'm misremembering but I don't recall him struggling early as a pro

Very unlikely. Derrick's been hurt a lot. I like the guy, though.

Hall was born at altitude and lived there. There's a reason he excelled at the marathon more than other Americans.

Hall is a pale shadow of CD.

Unlikely to see another American 2:04 marathoner anytime soon. It takes a special runner to hit that mark. Derrick is a great runner, great guy, super bright and I can see him with a great political career one day. In the US House or Senate maybe. But he's unlikely to be a 2:04 marathoner. Would love to see him dip under 2:09 though.

I think he has a lot of potential. But he's injury prone.

I can see him running 2:07-2:08. Maybe even 2:06.

Like Derrick, hope he does well. Feel his ceiling is closer to 2:10-2:12. Compare him to guys like Curtis or Bairu. Similar track PRs at 10k. Neither of those guys ever really ran a stellar marathon by their own standards. While Derrick seems to have a big aerobic engine, he’s injury prone and likely never gets to the high mileage required to be a sub 2:10 guy. Objectively, he’s at least a notch below a guy like Rupp, maybe two. At present, Rupp is barely a 2:10 guy, even if he has the potential to do more.
