Things could still get a little bit better in the next few days, but for the most part, all the forecasts point to Chicago being just the other side of Too Warm to go really fast. I'm trying to run sub 2:35 so I can qualify for Fukuoka, and on a perfect day I know I have a 2:33-ish race in me, but I am a really bad warm weather runner. Looking at alternatives, right now Grand Rapids on 10/15 looks like my best bet, though I could easily be in no man's land the second half or more.
Anyone have any suggestions for fast marathons within 2 weeks of Chicago that I could actually still enter? Or should I just man up and stick to the big race? The worst part is I live in Chicago, and I love my hometown race, but I'm getting older, and you only get so many shots to leave it all on the course.
Chicago Marathon weather not looking great, other options?

I'm in the same boat with the sub 2:35 time goal at Chicago, but I'm based on the East Coast. If it's anything like currently forecast I'm not going to make the trip. I have Mohawk-Hudson Marathon near Albany, NY on the back burner. (maybe they'd still let you in to the "elite" field... it's sub-2:40 or sub 1:14-half). It could be warm there too though, in which case I'll probably hold off until Philadelphia Marathon (I don't like to extend a taper by another 1-2 weeks).
Toronto Waterfront is another option two weeks after Chicago. Closer to you, maybe Detroit or Des Moines one week after Chicago? I really know nothing about those races though or the quality of the fields. -
I can't stand racing in the heat more than anyone, but this forecast isn't that bad. In fact, there's a better than 50/50 chance the weather for any other potential race would be worse. Dew points in the 40's and temps in the 50's to start. That's pretty damn good.

there are some different forecasts. some with the start temperature closer to 65

That's close to last year, which had nearly perfect conditions. You need a better excuse if you're bailing. -

Not to mention I'm the idiot that thought it was this Sunday. -

See above. -
The Whistlestop Marathon in Ashland, WI is only a week after (oct 14). It is known for being a course to PR on/BQ because it is a gradual downhill the entire way. Also, a lot of it is run on an old railroad line. Definitely cooler up that way, too! Check it out! But on the other hand, weather changes so drastically this far out, it could be 30 and rainy the time Chicago rolls around.

We're coming from San Antonio. After the summer we had, we're looking forward to the weather forecasted in Chicago. -

Cool story bro. Sounds like you're a winner all around! There's something called science...You'd still run faster under cooler conditions. -

There's something called balls...grow a pair and race. -
Is this a joke? The start is ten days away. Weather forecasts at that distance are close to worthless.

This is now a thread about anthropogenic global warming.
-
the day before the race the dewpoint is 51 degrees at race time...that's not bad at all. Not ideal but not a real problem.
I don't see a Sunday forecast for dewpoint yet. -
Still to far out to worry about the weather. Anything forecast's more than 5 days out are guesses. Conses builds at 5 and a solid forecast happens 3 days out.

This thread reads like a parody of present-day marathon participants. -
This is classic letsrun. Someone asks for suggestions and there are like zero helpful responses. Rather a bunch of has beens, wannabes and a jag-mo from San Antonio just chime in worthless and devolve the thread.
He wrote that the forecast could change and he wrote that he doesn't run well in the heat. He's making a backup plan and trying to figure out which marathons still have space. -
You guys should have gotten a clue it was going to be hot when Rupp was announced. I said then either the AR was going down or the temp will be in the 80's as that kid brings the heat

^THIS is classic LRC trolling. Several posts offered alternative marathons to run. Troll eyes are incapable of seeing those. -

There are 15 posts after the OP. ONE mentions other possible races (and one sounds like it's the Whistlestop race director promoting his own race... so I'm not counting that one).
