I wonder if they had an "elite athlete + prize money" budget that basically has remained constant but since the wheelchair stuff is up - that would mean that the runners get a smaller percentage of that.
It surprises me that there is one press release for the runners and wheelchair athletes. The wheelchair athletes are inspirational but they are a tiny percentage of the race.
Last year, there were 49 wheelchair finishers and 49,000+ runners so wheelchair racers represented .01%. Yet about 30% of the press release is devoted to them? That makes no sense.
My fears that marathons are turning into nothing more than than charity/inspire/fitness runs grows larger each passing year.
