You and a whole lot if other people. The midterms will be a shock to lefties.
Here ya go, fruitloop!
How does this thread stay up, but anything about Charlottesville was taken down? This place is beyond toxic, racist, and down right disgusting...
Everyone in the country now has a decision to make, you can either stand up for free speech and be CALLED a Nazi, or you can join those suppressing free speech and BECOME a Nazi. Choose wisely.

Then that makes you a Nazi. You have BECOME a Nazi and you have been CALLED a Nazi. You choose poorly.
Reasonable Germans felt the Nazi's were slightly less loony than the communists. The error was how normal citizens felt forced to choose extreme left and extreme right and be murdered for opposing whoever the eventual winner was. If antifa wants to avoid repeating the mistakes if the past, they will abide by the law and not scare the majority centrists into opposition.
I watched the interview when it aired. Chuck Todd didn't press him in the right way. The problem is that Antifa decides, unilaterally, who and what are fascist, and then uses violence against them. That is vigilantism; it's unlawful arrogation of the state's monopoly on legitimate violence.
In Berkeley, this led Antifa to decide unilaterally that the flouncy gay provocateur, Milo Yiannopoulos, was a fascist and should not be allowed to speak on campus at the invitation of a campus student group.

I'm a believer in free speech. I believe that more free speech is better than less free speech and that the best response to people whose ideas you don't agree with is better ideas, not violent suppression cloaked in the word "anti-fascism."
I completely get that we don't want neo-Nazi goons with torches marching on college campuses at night shouting "The Jews much be replaced." If they're breaking laws, they should be arrested and prosecuted. And they should be combatted by the sort of peaceful counterdemonstration that just took place in Boston. But as for violence? I'd prefer not to let self-appointed vigilantes ride freely, riot with impunity, shut down the speech of whomever they deem "fascist."
Milo isn't fascist. He's annoying. He's sometimes pitiful. But he's also provocative and funny, and if conservatives on a college campus want to invite him to speak, he should be allowed.

What part of "sticks and stones" do you not get? Most people before the age of 4 grasp the concept.
You think dumbly.
I tend to hold liberal viewpoints, but I absolutely can't condone my fellow liberals' discourse and methods. WE are responsible for a lot of this. We've basically become a liberal version of the religious right: whatever beliefs we carry are not only correct, but are morally superior in every way just because we say so. If anyone disagrees, they are a bad person. No room for discussion or argument. $15/hr minimum wage everywhere and for everyone. If you disagree or even stop to think about whether or not it's a good idea, you must hate poor people. Globalization is great. If you're not 100% on board with that, your must be a xenophobic racist.
We created a dichotomy. You can buy into liberal ideology 100%, or you are immoral trash. When you create such a dichotomy, don't be surprised when some people say "okay, I guess I'll be immoral trash, then."
Nothing justifies becoming full-on Nazi, but the idea that screaming "racist" at anyone who disagrees with you is going to get better outcomes than actual discussion is ridiculous.

This seems to be the tactic: Poke people in the eye until someone says something most (left and right) would agree is "clownish" so you can generalize it against the other side and use it to political advantage.
Sadly the tactic of actually campaigning on better ideas for addressing real and pressing issues seems to be a thing of the past.

Crawl back into your hole and learn how to spell.
Kudzu, this is the most logical and truly neutral point that I have read from you. Congrats.

It sucks living in a political war zone. All these extremist groups are ruining the chill atmosphere.

he is the enemy and is identifying himself
that's good
The problem isn't "the left" or the "the right," it's extremists at the far end of these movements who share more in common with each other than with the moderate middle. If you are on "the right" and want to stage a free speech rally, that's fine but you would be best to do it separately from the white supremacists because they will take all of the attention and make you look like one of them. If you are on "the left" and want to counter protest against fascists, that's fine but why be violent? Not only is it wrong, it's incredibly counter productive. Police your own group! If there are 10-thousand peaceful protesters and a dozen violent ones, it's a violent protest and violent protests don't come across well. Follow the example of successful non-violent protesters like Jesus, Ghandi and Martin Luther King. It's the most effective method.
But, what you must realize, is that it is largely 'the left'. Propaganda is very real, and it is very effective, and the power-left (media, politics, academia) use it well.
8 minutes to a more clear idea to much of what is being witnessed...

Portland is a weird. We could go around the city and I'll wear my Queers for Trump shirt and my Star of David hat and see what happens.
