That idiot doing the field event "updates" for NBCSN endlessly hyped some imaginary assault on the WR, potentially spoiling the viewing experience for that general TV viewer or general sports fan that they always claim they're trying to reach. Why ruin it for them by making it all about something that was extremely unlikely to happen?
Barshim was the only athlete to clear 2.35 and won. Exactly the same as in the 1984 L.A. Olympics--the gold was won at 2.35 and only that one guy cleared it. Wow, what progress in 33 years, and NBC is all worked up about what they seem to think has never been seen before.
The great Dwight Stones jumped 2.34 for an AR at the 1984 Trials at age 30. The WR was 2.39 at that time. So what's so impressive, 33 years later, about somebody clearing 2.35?
Oh well, no one can figure out what is going on in any of the field events anyway based upon what little NBC spits out in the confused, jumbled way they spit it out.
Though I do give the NBC team credit for talking about how for many HJers, the goal is to do 7-8 jumps in competition, and to have best possible effort at jump #7 or so. Felt like I learned something from that.
6'04" isn't that high. I hurlded 5'10" and jumped 6'05" with a flop. There are dozens and dozens of high school kids that can hurdle 6'04". Anyone that can jump 7" should be able to hurdle 6"04".

Speaking of which, did y'all catch the scissor at the end of the 3000m steeple?
Is Dwight Stones posting anonymously on this thread? Because he's better than anyone else and everything sucks compared to him.

Impressive!
Charles Austin at 6' tall scissored the crossbar at 7' numerous times during his career....the announcer acted like this was so amazing for Barshim to do this...it is only part of his warmup routine goober announcer....he could hit 7' me thinks scissoring but not in a warmup before a major competition.

Barshim has hurdled over 7'0, saw it myself in a practice. Fire the whole lot of the NBC crew. Masback only one tolerable.

You realize hurdling is front on. Scissors kick is from an angle.
They kept calling it a hurdle. Drove me nuts that they thought it was something unreal. Scissor aproached are common in JH. These guys need to retire.
