So here is my 2 cents worth (if anyone cares). Last year we looked at this, numerous athletes from kids to nearly elites, and myself of course (hobby jogger 🚨). We looked at running form in trainers, flats and barefoot (naturally I was in socks because I'm a wuss) over 250m at a high speed stride. Barefoot looked way better than trainers, but only marginally better than flats. But most of the runners (including me) were using trainers and flats that were too old. Once you replaced the old trainers or flats with newer ones, runners tended to land on the forefoot/mid foot than the heel. We also found than 400m-600m once a week barefoot was all that was necessary to get to some benefit when not doing track work and most risked injury doing any more. We found doing speed work in spikes actually gives a better form than barefoot.
In short, barefoot is not the be all and end all. Core strength, weight, arm action, and speed also play a part in making you faster.
Winning the lottery is the answer to all of man's problems. Money solves all problems. (Or at least I'd like to give it a try.)

True, but what is my occupation?
So you're not Gwen Barry from Cardiff? That's a pity, she's hot.
Maybe not running but just to walk barefoot is super healthy.
I give you 13 excellent reasons to do it:
Good toe gripping and muscular strength
Stronger arch
Better balance
Greater bone density
Better joint strength
Better digestion
Better mood (connectedness, happiness and peacefulness)
Better brain function (additional neural pathways)
Better flow and circulation
Powerful energy to run, play and explore
Stronger immune system, which means a body that will be injury, fatigue and disease-resistant for years to come
More tuned into their surroundings (awareness of walking and moving through…)
Being grounded, connected to the Earth...
The more you walk barefoot better it is for your body, mind and soul...
barefoot running changed my life
I cut my toe on something while running barefoot on a trail near home. Cleaned it when I got home. I had my tetanus shot up to date. My foot became infected and swelled to twice normal size within 12 hours. Had scary looking striations. Ankle and knee started hurting. I was scared they would have to amputate. Went to emergency room and got an antibiotic shot. Stayed overnight for observation and IV antibiotics. Cost over $5000.
Redness, striations and swelling subsided over the next week.
Two years later and my foot is still screwed up.
Yes. Running barefoot definitely changed my life.
Don’t worry, it will be cool again in 10 years
