You guys think it is easy to control from the front? Ask Laura Muir.

Muir didn't even try to. She is being given far too much credit for that race. The only one who tried to control it was Hassan.
2:46 vs 2:49 at 1000m? Using wr proportion 3:02 would be a fairer comparison in which case it would be a gamble (or Semenya actually).
Centrowitz is a wonderful tactician, that race proved it (plus some luck on his side).
And how did that work out for Hassan?

Rough race, Hassan and Kip bumping elbows repeatedly. Dibaba running through Miur, and Jenny finding the open lane.
It was Hassan Elbowing Faith with every stride. She takes up every inch of lane one with her scything elbows. Kipyegon is made of steel not to be derailed by that.

Agreed that Hassan runs extremely widely for such a skinny woman. Kinda like Mo running extremely longly for a such a short guy.

It's not easy but it's not masochistic like spotting massive ground to premier competitors. That is the height of stupidity for virtually every runner or swimmer.
Frontrunning is comparatively easy if you are markedly superior to the field. Get out front and all but eliminate the peripheral unexpected variables.
There's a reason rabbits have been entered in horse racing for decades by opposing trainers to jeopardize premier speed horses. Nobody enters horses to mess with deep closers. They get into enough trouble in their own right.

I know nothing about horse racing. So they have sit-and-kickers too? Are they hated like Mo?
The fundamental thing difference between Centro and Muir of course is they have completely different acceleration capabilities. Centro can instantly adjust to stay ahead of any challengers, right to finish.
Laura on the other hand must gap everybody before the final 300 or she will get mowed down. She wanted to be able to do that today, but her fitness didn't allow it. Instead she tried a muddled strategy of getting out quick, then slowing, then re-accelerating to stave off attacks. This fell apart when Hassan came rocketing past to break things open.
Centro's race in Rio was a masterful use of unique capabilities. Today's race was the same...by Kipyegon.
Muir's last lap move reminds me of Pre in the Munich 5000. Big move on the backstretch leaves you short in the stretch
Rio men's 15 was essentially a 400m race. Centro was in the lead, thus had a head start and the best position. It's hard to come from behind off a start in a 400m race with people of near equal ability.
Did no one see her throw unnecessary forearm to Simpson? Hmm.
We're waiting for the video to pop up on YouTube.
IAAF/NBC have been cracking down hard on unauthorized uploads.

Centro and Simpson have very similar strengths/abilities.
Muir's problem is she is too anxious/aggressive. She was going to get a medal had she not overreacted multiple times to others' moves. If she'd been more patient the last lap, she would have nabbed silver in my view because Simpson waiting a while and was very reliant on others misjudging their efforts.
Both Sifan and Muir put on big moves in the middle of the race and it probably caught them both in the end. e.g., Sifan went from last to first after on the backstretch after 800. Simpson and Kipyegon and Semenya ran for that final stretch. Yes Muir is reminiscent of Pre.
Simpson is a master tactician who knows her strength and limits. Likewise Centro.

Do not even mention centro in the same breath as Simpson. Compare his resume with Simpsons. Centro is a no talent p#$$y who lucked out once in his life. Is he running at worlds? If he does, he will get destroyed.
Centro's win was a thing of beauty. I believe the strategy was conceived years before and training catered for that exact series of races culminating with an extremely slow final. The other athletes were foolish enough to let him get away with it. I seriously doubt it will work twice in a row.
