Van Niekerk kind of reminded me of Johnson, he just slingshots of the bend and holds the speed so much better than anyone else. Talbot went all out to be just 0.001 behind Van Niekerk. Van Niekerk but in just enough effort to win.

They do a great job. They just had Ryan Crouser on for an interview. Even though the shot medals have been handed out, he's still trying to get named the gold medallist as he doesn't believe he fouled on the back yesterday.

The BBC suggested Makwala might have decided to skip the 200 to stand a better chance at the 400. If that's true though, he'd be disqualified as you need a medical reason not to start (and then start lateron).

So my guess would be an injury (or the above-stated attempt at doing a Makhloufi).

Heat 1: Blake won clearly. Looking relaxed. Sani Brown has so much room to improve. His arm movements are similar to Nijel Amos.

Heat 2: Jereem Richards 20.05 (-0.6). Or he's in sub 19.85 shape, or he tried too hard being a 1st round. Dwyer struggled for 3rd place.

Heat 3: Van Niekerk retired Bolt. 20.16 tanking the last 40 meters. Talbot looked great also.

Heat 4: the most difficult, with 5 good sprinters. Guliyev, as usual, cruising the heats easily. Webb wasnt trying too hard, and Lemaitre is a gamer.

Heat 5: Makwaka DNS, and Sidney Siame showing that his 9.88 wasnt so fluke. Horrible run by Weir.

Heat 6: Isiah Young beat Simbine. That is a surprise for me.

Heat 7: Mitchell-Blake won with effort his heat to Aaron Brown. Munyai was saving something I think.

Makwala update: BBC says it's food poisoning.

Easier in the 200, but that means Makwala will be fresher in the 400. So it got harder in the 400.

Let's be honest, it's a smart move by Makwala as he is better at 400 than 200.

The BBC is reporting that Makwala is ill with food poisoning and will provide a medical certificate. Do they really make you provide a medical certificate? I didn't think they had an honest effort rule.
