Wow...cannot say enough about how impressive he was. JC did more than his share of pace making and he was still strong at the finish.

I like this guy. The FUTURE.
Got some SWEET revenge on Kamworor too.
With all the crazy surging and jostling, I think he and Farah are both in 26:30 shape. Big improvement from his meltdown in Kampala for World Cross.

Yes. He will likely run at least 12:50 and 26:30 before he is done....Plus he will likely have won several international track titles. He looks like he could run a 2:05 marathon now.
Definitely the best 10,000m (men's) race at a world championships. So many guys up with the fast pace! Hope that JC keeps grinding out fast races in championships
Great run by him. Seriously impressive.
JC also must have run a faster last lap than Mo as he was a bit back at the bell.
Not to rain on anyone's parade - but Samuel Wanjiru ran 26:41 at age 18...
Watch the closing stages of the 10K again. Note how far he is behind Farah when Farah passes the line with 400 to go. Then note how far he is behind Farah at the finish. About the same distance! His last 400 must have been pretty much the same as Farah's but you cannot give a runner like Farah 2-3 yards lead with a lap to go.
very fun race to watch, despite the incredibly poor form of the BBC commentators, who are usually terrific except in Mo races. All they could do the whole time was cheer Mo on, come on, Mo, come on, Mo, ... Embarrassing.
Cheptegei was terrific and showed a solid kick at the end after doing so much work. The sport needs guys like this that are willing to put it all on the line. His world xc performance was epic.

And he was an incredible talent, but it doesn't make this any less impressive.
Before ABP

If it was a time trial race (which would have made all the surging unnecessary) I'm sure Cheptegei would have ran 26:35-26:40. Farah is probably in the same shape but he surged a lot less energy and backed off the early fast pace with a lot more drafting so he just conserved more energy into the last lap.
This.
Wanjiru was probably not 18 anyway. I don't know if Cheptegei is just 20 but he is good and on the rise.

Oh yeah, he definitely is 20, because he ran 27:56 at age 17 and that is totally normal. I guess no American under 20 has ever run even under 28:00, but that is normal for Africans to be even faster than we are and THREE YEARS YOUNGER. Totally normal.

Of course it`s not normal to run sub 28 at age under 20 even in Africa. But they have another very different situation why they mainly run. They run for their lives! And on every talented young American there are thousands of Africans.
