After some digging I found the running log of one of American Fork's top runners from a couple years ago. I believe he was their #3-4 guy.
It seems crazy to me, but what do I know? They're the ones who go to NXN every year and are breaking records.
Early August:
Monday: Classic Grinder workout...10 mile run with a 1.2 mile near all out uphill section in the middle. Plus a double run.
Tuesday: Intervals. 5x1k or 4x1200 at race pace or faster. Or 16x400 at mile pace. The slowest is current 5k pace for any interval. Plus a double run.
Wednesday: An easy run thats run pretty fast...mid to low 6's.
Thursday: 2 mile threshold or 2 mile 'Power run' which is basically run at 5k pace in the middle of a 6-7 mile run. Plus a double run.
Friday: An easy run
Saturday: Long capillary run. Usually 11-12 miles averaging 5:50-6:00 pace
Sunday: off day
Usually 3-5 double days a week. Sprints on the easy days as well it seems.
Every workout is at race pace or faster. Those long runs are absolutely killer to me, seeing as how that guy is a mid/high 15s guy until the end of the year.
Am I just underestimating the effect of altitude and maybe this is just easy for them? I can see why they're so consistently good. This will make anyone get in shape fast make you strong.
