Good advice! That takes me back to my senior year. Ran stellar workouts during the summer and preseason. Near-the-front placing at the early invitationals. But by the league meet and sectionals, I way under-performed. Didn't even make it to states.
Really, I would think a kid just going into sophomore year should just be running easy mileage all summer. Eat well, get plenty of sleep, and enjoy being young. In the old days, at least, that was usually the last year before having to work a 40-hour-a-week summer job while logging the miles.
