Thebe, Makwala, and Sibanda are all 43-high/44-low. Do they have a 4th runner sub 45?

I think they have a shot

Amos runs a pretty handy sub 45 in relays
Yes. Amos 45.55 in an open 400 a few weeks ago. I doubt he would be in the relay tho..

Why not? He ran a storming leg at world's in 2015, 44.1 I think it was.
Amos ran a 43.8 split in 2015
And Onkabetse Nkobolo is a 45.3 sprinter
Order has to be something like:
Sibanda
Amos (Nkobolo)
Thebe
Makwala
They can challenge US, But it 's time to Gil Roberts for another passionate night.
I've got Botswana for the win. It'll be epic!!!

But if Botswana can beat US (and lets say US comes 2nd, Jamaica 3rd), can beat the full continent.
Who's running for Argentina in a 4x4 better than US squad? Messi? Ginobili?
American 400 meter corps is as weak now than I can ever remember....
Currently Botswana has
Thebe SB 44.02 PB 44.02
Makwala SB 43.84 PB 43.72
Sibanda SB 45.05 PB 44.25
Nkobolo SB 45.34 PB 45.10
Seasons best at up too 2:58.25, Personal best add up to 2:57.09
The U.S has
Kerley SB 43.70 PB 43.70
Roberts SB 44.22 PB 44.22
London SB 44.47 PB 44.47
Merrit SB 44.78 PB 43.65
SBs add up to 2:57.17, PBs to 2:56.04
Assuming relay hand off give .6 of a second, that would put Botswana at SB 2:56.45 PB 2:55.25, and the U.S SB 2:55.37 PB 2:54.24. Botswana could also sub in Amos, who has split 43.8 for Nkobolo, which assuming he repeats that would put Botswana at PB 2:54.3, right with the Americans.
On paper this should be a great race, but of course anything can happen in real life.
Interesting stats. Thank you for compiling

Da fuq? How many times in US history have two guys run sub 44 in a 12 month timeframe? '88 and '92, but when else? Plus two college underclassmen at 44.6 or better

'68 (very big A, though) as well.

Wariner and Merritt must've done this as well, no?
What about Jamaica? Don't they have a few young guys under 45 as well? Chris Taylor, Akeem Bloomfield, Javon Francis, etc.

Botswana has a shot, but you can't evaluate a relay by simply adding up PRs. The U.S. far more relay experience, which btw is not a trivial matter. Also, the U.S. has the advantage of not having to use it's top guns to qualify. If Merritt can be Merritt and Kearly can hold on this his form, the USA should be ok.
I'd say yes if it was the best of Americans from last year, but now we've got Fred Kerley and we obviously know what he can do. Him, Merritt, Roberts and whoever else will be tough, but Botswana is so stacked. I think USA and Botswana will go 1-2 (in no particular order).
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
