Wasn't this already answered above? One's sex is biological; one's gender is social.
What's the confusion?
Say John Doe identifies profoundly as a camel, despite his obvious physiological and anatomical differences with camels, and people go along with this identification, is he a camel? Should those refusing to refer to John Doe as a camel be treated as benighted bigots, haters or, to use "Kent's" term, "a$$hole[s]?"
But what if the differences are not as great as those between humans and camels? Should those refusing to refer to Caitlyn Jenner as a human female be treated as benighted bigots, haters or, to use "Kent's" term, "a$$hole[s]?"
Jenner, you may know, was married to three women and the biological father, we are told, of several children. Why should those referring to him as a woman not be considered to have joined in with a group delusion or committing a "politically correct" fib? Should Jenner, regardless of whatever name he goes by ("Bruce," "Caitlyn" or something else) be allowed to shower or change clothes in a female-only locker room?
There's an old saying that is apt here: tying a feather duster to a dog's tail does not make it a peacock.
