Official 2017 Rabat DL Discussion Thread - BMart vs. Rowbury + Caster at 400

As far as Caster Semenya goes, I mean nobody has seen her race an all out 800m possibly for fear of breaking the WR. She could possibly be a 1:53 800m runner, leading to a 50. 400m, which could possibly be just enough to win even in a loaded field. I hope she runs fast and wins, definitively proving how silly the CAS decision was.

Caster will be beaten by both Miller and Hayes soundly. But her sit and kick tactics will work on the rest of the field.

If Semenya ever consults Wayde's coach for sprint training, however, then the rest of the women should definitely be worried moving foward.

Based on the thread title, I thought Bmart was racing against a Rowbury/Caster relay team at 400 meters.

Also, why would you need to use a hypothetical 800m fitness to extrapolate a 50 second 400m when her pr is 50.40?

The Rabat meet is also on NBCSN at 8:30 to 10:30 EST Sunday night.

Track and Field Maniac comes in clutch again with the live stream on Youtube. It has worked for the last 2 Diamond League meets. Downfall, I don't think the commentary is in English, but I'll take it. If anyone finds a free English commentary stream, post here.

Fyi that the meet is on the Olympic Channel right now - 11am-1pm Pacific.

It's interesting to now that on our twitter poll 54% think Bmart will beat Rowbury whereas on the letsrun poll in the article (presumably attracting smarter voters), 66% think Bmart will win.

Men’s 1500: Morocco goes 1-2-3

This non-DL event consisted of mosly Moroccans, with World U20 champ Kumari Taki of Kenya the most notable foreigner. But Taki could only manage fifth place as 24-year-old Brahim Akachab took the win in a personal best of 3:35.03.

Akachab has risen quickly from obscurity. As recently as May 1, his PR was still 3:42 but he clocked 3:37.53 on May 7 before going two months without racing. The Moroccan finally had another chance to showcase his skills today and he took full advantage, running another big PR to win convincingly.

Men’s shot put: Ryan Crouser puts on a show again

No one has been able to touch Ryan Crouser in the shot put all year, and that was the case once again in Rabat, where he was the only man to better 22 meters. Crouser accomplished that feat three times, going 22.21 in round two, 22.44 in round three and 22.47 in round six. World Championship bronze medalist O’Dayne Richards of Jamaica had a good day as well, setting a national record of 21.96 to finish second, but that toss would only have been good enough for the fourth-best throw in Crouser’s series (barely).

Women’s 400 hurdles: Zuzana Hejnova picks up her first victory of the year

The Czech Republic’s Zuzana Hejnova is the two-time defending world champion, but she hadn’t been in that kind of form in her first three 400 hurdles races of 2017 as she was 4th in Eugene, 4th in Rome and 5th in Lausanne. But Hejnova ran a season’s best of 54.22 today, and with most of the top Americans sitting this one out, that held up for the win.

Jamaica’s Janieve Russell, who won in London last week, made a late bid for the win over the final two hurdles, but she could not close the gap in time and wound up second in 54.36.

Question: Did the U.S. broadcasters (Ato Boldon and Paul Swangard) actually make the trip to Morocco? Seems to me that they're in the U.S. commenting on what they see on TV. Also, Paul Swangard can't pronounce athletes' names. He mispronounced Hejnova's name and referred to Churandy Martina as Martinez...lol.

Race commentary is done from a studio in the US. So, no, the broadcast team does travel the world to call every DL meet.
