Kawauchi's 23x sub 2:12:00 is an Excellent Achievement deserving of a WR for most ever. Yes, most sub 2:20s, 2:19s, 2:10s, 2:05s, etc. for men; most sub 2:30s, 2:25, 2:22s, 2:20s for women. They are all WRs worthy of someone working hard to achieve, and as impressive as a one-off WR.

That one dude, Eliud Kipchoge, holds the WR for most sub WR marathon times at one. Everyone else is tied with zero.

Aside from the bit where you find him tragic, you've just described pretty much every "elite" runner on earth. The number who never win "anything of merit" dwarfes the number of those who do.

Kimetto doesn't have a time BELOW the world record. Only Kipchoge does. Kipchoge has one, everyone else has zero.
