A teamate and I were talking about the possiblity of a 1k steeplchase, or maybe just 1k over barriers without the water jump. Do you think this could be a valid event? I think it would require a different kind of runner than exists with events now.

I've run a 1km steeple. We had it at one of our summer meets at school, water jump and all. It was pretty sweet. The barriers come up on you fast though. 2:42, first steeple ever.
It would be real rough. A middle distance steeple... A lot of bumping and grinding, it would be fun to watch :)
10,000m Steeple Chase now that is a real event
100m then 26 laps of barriers and water jumps
i say your bullshitting about the 2:42
i believe it was about 2:42.8. No bullshit. Thats not really that fast.
Ya Im gonna go a head an call BS on that one too. Sorry dude.
Definately BS for a highschooler to run that time for their first ever Steeplechase.
Would love to see something like 800/1000m Hurdles, that would be quite an event to master.
Definitely BS. Even if you were experienced in the steeple, that time is like running 2:30 1k without the jumps. Now, seeing as you were inexperienced, that would mean you had the capability of going close to 2:25. BS.
I like the idea of a 3k steeple race without barriers... so essentially a 3k with a water pit every lap.

I dont know if you were serious or not but something of that sort would be interesting to watch. Often times really good 3k runners are very rythmic runners, i.e. they lock into a certain pace and it just flows. They dont do much surging or changing of speed for any reason. A water pit would sure screw that up.

I was serious... I don't think it'll ever happen, but it would be sweet. Plus it would make it easier for guys who really can't hurdle, despite the fact that they are really fast.
i wasn't a high schooler and i Have run better then 2:25 in the 1000, its not like you have to believe me though. Hurdle drills are similar to the barriers so i guess i had a little experience.
