Just won lottery - wife wants to give it away to deadbeats

Compromise with your wife. Give each of them $100,000 instead and then make some sort of bet over which one of them will be completely broke again first. You still give away a lot of money like you wife wants to (but only 10% of her suggested amount) and you get to have some fun with a social experiment in terrible life decision making between 5 different people.

Give half the money to your wife and let her do what she wants with her half.

easier to respond to this if you tell us how much you won, so we know what proprottion this $5 million makes up.

Conduct your own UBI test.

Structure the payout as ~20k per year for however many years.

Based on some posts on my recent thread, you will be bashed on LR if you don't use that money to take in and raise other peoples' kids.

Don't want to disclose exact amount but the 5 mil is less than 10% of the lump sum. I don't like the idea of dividing in half because my wife will be less responsible with the proceeds. Prefer to put moneys into trusts to control spending and investments.

Is your wife already so money-drunk that she thinks tossing $1million without serious, serious contemplation is in any way justifiable?

I don't know how much money you had before this, but I couldn't fathom just casually wanting to give $5 million away to based on a childhood promise.

You have to make sure your wife shuts up. I don't mean to be disrespectful at all but you can't have cousins with some type of *impulse control disorders* knowing that you are sitting on a hefty amount.

Do not tell anyone. Send them $50,000 each anonymously. Tell them they won a contest or something. But don't let on that you have this much money to anyone. Ever.

The feeling of waking up in the morning financially sound and stress free when it comes to money is better than living life lavishly and burning it.

Pay for your kids college educations. Find people who have been short changed in life and invest in them but make them work for it. You can help people but do so without people knowing how much you really have.
