Question: Did he emigrate here with any skills or a degree of some kind? Is he now a U.S. citizen or intending to become one? Or did he show up here without any skills other than WR in the marathon? I'm not trying to put him down , just wondering what his reasons for being here are.

If you weren't trying to put him down, you didn't do a very good job. What are his reasons for being here? How about the chance to live a decent life? My parents were immigrants with no skills or degrees. They are part of what has always made this country great. They worked hard for little money and provided opportunities for their kids that wouldn't have been possible where they came from. Your elitist attitude is disgusting.

As Rodney Dangerfield said to Sam Kennison in Back to School, "Take it easy!" The original post asked about employment, and Ned asked about citizenship status and skills. Makes perfect sense. I didn't read a bit of "Go home, filthy foreigner" into it. How can someone help if they don't know what they are working with?

I met Belayneh and he's a nice guy. He has a family to support, I think 2 teenage daughters. The last I heard which was this winter he was parking cars at a Cambridge garage. He is training again and wants to compete as a Master. He went to Rotterdam this year as a guest.

This quote was on the homepage. It's a frickin shame that Nike will give Tiger Woods $50million a year to hit a white ball around a green field but they can't give a guy like Gilmore or a 2:06:50 marathoner say $50,000 to make ends meet (and wear their clothes and shoes). You could sponsor 1,000 national calibre runners for the money Tiger gets.
