This poll would be interesting to do with female milers. Nearly all of these posts show a healthy 5-10 second improvement each year over the course of a male's HS career. I suspect it would look much different for girls, with a slow down 10th grade or a longer plateau. (Including middle school times might make it even more interesting).

11th grade: 6:45
12th grade: maybe 6:00 even if I don't train for it. I just sprint.30m 50m.100m twice a week and play basketball and tennis 5 times.a week.
9th - 4:41
10th - don't remember (9:27) two mile
11th - 4:11
12th - 4:05 mile
I'll start in junior high (that's what my school was called in the 1970s)...
1974, 7th grade...don't recall (gym class)
1975, 8th grade...5:36 (track meet)
1976, 9th grade..."6:57" (gym class)**
1977, 10th grade...5:11 (gym class) (Driver's Ed preempted T&F season)
1978, 11th grade...ran XC
1979, 12th grade..ran XC
College....nuttin'
1985...10:30 for 1.5 miles (USAF fitness test...I was heavy)
1986...same as above
1988...7:50 for 1.5 miles (USAF fitness test...I got back in shape)
1988...4:24 for 1500m
1989...8:00 for 1.5 miles (USAF fitness test, a week after running a marathon)
1990...7:56 for 1.5 miles (USAF fitness test)
Almost oddly, I never actually competed much at the mile, despite it being an event I liked in JHS and HS. I've had sub-5 splits in longer races; I don't consider those as official miles.
**This is an anomaly because the school has no track...the gym class mile was 4 laps around the football field and tennis courts; Google maps measures this path at 492 meters, thus, 4 laps is about 1.22 miles; this was run before I became injured and could not complete the track season.
8th grade-didn't run track but 6:48 for gym
9th-5:48
10th-5:16
11th-5:00 (so far, still have one meet left)
12th-I'd like to drop down to about a 4:40
I really need to start training, my workout speeds are good but my aerobic capacity is nil. I'm running 20 mpw right now and I'll be up to 30 by the end of June.
