You can only go to the well so many times. Kipchoge had a chance to break the world record but that sub 2 hour attempt sealed his fate. Eliud will never break the world record now. Could he have? We will never know for sure.

Cool story bro.
Would you rather have Denis Kimetto's career or Eliud Kipchoge's?

Why is that the choice?
Eliud did choose the paycheck that came with the sub 2 attempt.

This is a separate issue. Somebody else will break Kimetto's record, but it will not be Kipchoge. Kipchoge has had a stellar career. Most of course would say Kipchoge has had a better running resume than Kimetto.

Kipchoge's 2:00:25 will be remembered long, long after the WR is broken. In fact, I really doubt that anyone will ever talk about the marathon WR without caveating that it wasn't as fast as Kipchoge's performance this past weekend. It's like he hung a big asterisk on the actual WR, when we all thought it'd be the other way around.
I'm sure he made at least a million dollars for his efforts. Plus, now he can go run a marathon in 4-6 months and smash the WR. And an race after this one will be easy physically and mentally.

Which is why it is a farce and a shame for all future real WR holders.
If mutai had held on and beat kimmeto in only the single race, kimmeto would just be an "also ran." No one would remember him. You can't say that about kipchoge
Think about it, Eliud basically got paid millions to train for what, 7-8 months with Nike?
He didn't have to worry about money, food, etc. Just train. He is probably in the best shape of his life right now, physically and mentally. I think he will break the WR if he goes for it in the near future. I really hope he does. I don't think he will become complacent and stagnate, I really hope he doesn't.
Give me a break.... he's going to destroy the world record in Berlin.

That is EXACTLY what I was thinking.

This is the type of thinking associate with mediocre cognition. Kipchoge has run many high level marathons. Has anybody broken the world record for the first time after so many high level efforts?
If the weather conditions are good and the pacing for the first 25K is on target I see no reason why he can't run under 2:02.

25k with huge Tesla in front, maybe!
Bookmarking this thread so when Kipchoge breaks the WR I can come back to it and remind you how big of an idiot you are for doubting him.

Mediocre cognition??!! YOU were the one who made up a statement that you believed to be true, and the ASKED us here at letsrun if anybody has an idea if your statement is true. That's like writing a research paper and asking your teacher to find the sources for you. This is hall of fame stupid.
You spewed out some nonsense diarrhea from your closed mind and then asked somebody else to prove it right for you. That requires minimal cognition, maybe no cognition at all. I think you should go back and read what you wrote. Even our "mediocre cognition" would know to simply google search before posting something ignorant like that. Are you honestly that dense?
I hope you read what I wrote and deeply reconsider ever posting here again.

Are you stupid? He's in the best shape of his life. You'd have to be a fool to totally discount his chances of getting the WR.
Another pedestrian mind at work....you cannot even read with comprehension. I asked nobody for anything. Google "rhetorical question." Stupidity is ubiquitous.
