I promise Im not trolling, I am convinced that there track is short. Think about it, how do you ever know that a track is the right distance? Some one puts some rubber out their and draws some white lines and tells you its 400. If people always run contsinstently faster on a track, it has to be short. I'd love for someone to explain why Im wrong.
I'm on bored with this take. Really not sure how people run fast there year after year if theire actually running the proper distance
Actually, all tracks are short. Tracks are 400 meters around at a point 6 inches from the inside line, so if you stick to the inside on the turns you can run less that the race distance

I wouldn't say this is a ridiculous claim at all. Has anyone ever measured it? I'm not really into conspiracies, but if you connect the dots, Stanford has every incentive to have a short track. Think of all the revenue the college brings in from hosting these meets where people flock for fast times. They do it very unambiguously for their xc invite in the fall.

Why would we dismiss this so quickly? It seems like there's a legitimate concern that could undermine the sport. Why shouldn't we investigate something like this?

This. Pretty sure Rojo raised concerns about the Monica track in years past. Why not build a track a few meters short and not tell anyone?
I measured it on google earth several years ago and its 400m.

wrong. tracks are measured from 20cm (sans rail) away from the inner most portion of lane one. at stanford, with a rail, it's measured 30cm away.
if you run right on the rail as close as possible without hitting it, you'll run less than 400m every time.

You could make the same argument about a ruler.
Think about it, how do you ever know that a ruler is the right length? Some one cuts some wood and draws some lines and tells you its 12 inches. If guys always measure their dicks consistently longer, it has to be short. I'd love for someone to explain why I'm wrong.
I ran some workouts on this track and noticed no difference.

Same with clocks. Who says who's clock is correct or not and even then, how accurate is it? If this is the best one you have what do you use to calibrate it with? The second best clock? Why are there 60 seconds and 60 minutes but just 24 hours? Something about these two numbers doesn't compute. Finally, what was the rhyme or reason for the direction a clocks hands rotate? Was it because the clockmaker was right handed, or because of the direction the bathwater vortexed down the drain?
kid who went to the same high school as I do now had a college PR of 14:08 5k. Ran at Stanford first time and dropped a 13:49 his senior year. That kind of drop at that elite level? respect the kid to death but that seems to good to be true.
Are the 200 and 400 meter races fast as well?
Why not go out and buy an engineer's wheel, a plane ticket to San Francisco, and measure it yourself?
Then, and only then, should you enlighten us on how this track is "short."
