Hasay's a lovely lady - but she's got to be a winner otherwise she ends up like Anna K - that tennis player who sucked but took good modeling photos.
I'd say she's the Natalie Gulbis of Am. Distance running over the Anna K.
No
Sydney M is the most marketable
Marketable within the running community, but probably not a lot of mass appeal. You can only carry the persona of a girl up to a certain age, at a certain point you have to be marketed as a woman and Jordan is not very womanly. Beyond that, you have to win something or do something that gets you recognized.
Jenny Simpson is #1 ... New Balance pushes her everywhere. Emma Coburn is her sidekick.
Bump.

Yes, Jordan does need to win a major marathon to enter into a new level of marketability.
I think Emma Coburn should not have posed nude for the ESPN body issue. Too much exposure, her body was a little too manly.
Colleen Quigley has great potential as far as marketing, not sure she can match Emma in the steeple though. She is beautiful and has a great personality.
Molly Huddle is currently the most talented American distance runner, but she needs to improve her appeal in front of camera.
She is seems somewhat unapproachable and distant, not exactly what advertisers are looking for to sell their products.
Jordans marathon exposure generated yesterday generated more press than all of Mollys great races and records combined. Tracking services show that she will trend strong for another few days and probably generate several features.
Running steeples or being just attractive don't cut it, running a major televised marathon with a story does. Jordan is young, more people will know her and she will garner more ad support than all these women combined.
The marathon is the key.
Dean Karnazes was/is pretty marketable. He even had an episode of a TV show (super mutant humans or something) about him.
Colleen Quigley
A couple of billion Chinese and Indians have no idea who Jordan Hasay is.
If she could win a race.... any race... just once...
Evan Jager, Centro, and Clayton Murphy. Jager even has his Lolo-esque steeple biff.

Boston was televised live in China and re-broadcast several times already.
The commentators talked about her story the entire way.
Running community in China has grown by leaps and bounds in the last few years, selling out all the their major marathons in big cities.
Jordan stands out now as an exception to the africans. She is the shot that was heard around the world yesterday in the world of marathoning.
India will never care, cross them off the list.

Great interview and entertaining.
Model of how marketing and runner promotion can be for professional runners who lay a foundation of interacting with community - you never know who can help your career when you are older - Be a good person

All about looks wrote:Winning something is only good for the short term and die hards. The most important feature, especially true for women, remains their appearance. Colleen Quigley most likely to get long term marketing money just because she's very good looking. As long as she shows up and is somewhat competitive, she'll make any brand look good.
The only thing Lolo Jones won was US champions, world indoor championship, and eventually Bobsled...no outdoor worlds or olympics... and she did ok marketing wise.
Lolo is outgoing and marketed herself.
Jordan, is, no doubt, a nice young lady but I can't recall the last time I heard her say anything. I'm not even sure what her voice sounds like.
She was absolutely adorable in post Boston interviews and she couldn't walk anywhere without getting asked for selfies. That's a pretty good marketing base right there, BQ people and fans. She appeals to women runners as the likeable, shy, kid next door, but who's an Olympian, so they think if they wear, eat what she does, they can be, too.
Unique looks, great back story, we here at my ad agency on Madison Ave. Could make her a star.
I think she'll be highly marketable in the future, because I think she'll have good success on the roads. Right now, the most marketable is Mo Farah.
reed,
only thing I disagree with is the "gotta have the high school and college tiers"... Evan Jager, Alex Morgan, Kobe/Lebron to an extent didn't have this...
I think she's got to win or place top 5 in a few more races before we start throwing her tons of cash.
