Why deny anything you are doing? Because you either know it is wrong or you are trying to gain an unfair advantage. Both are 100% against the INTENT of fair play.

Banned or not banned is not at all the issue. There is no such thing as grey area. If you have to lie there is a reason for it.

Wasn't caffeine only banned at some obscene level? I'd guess that over 50% of runners are regularly drinking coffee or tea, seems an odd thing to get indignant about.

I was very upfront in what I did. I did hi-low training. I slept in my car atop a mountain. I was a poor man's version of what some of these training groups do now.

Serious, respectful question for you Weldon:

Did you just drink it black or did you add sugar to it?

Simple curiosity is the only reason I ask.

I have a friend who I coach, and Garmin data is I made that we use. I can look at his heart rate graph and tell when he had coffee before a run. When he has coffee it's jerky and jagged, up and down all over the place. But when he just does a relaxing warm up, his heart rate curve is smooth and gradual, and he has a great workoI'veseen seen the same thing in many friends' data when they drink coffee.

BS, unless your athlete ONLY drinks a LOT of coffee just for performance enhancement. Regular drinkers, like me, have very little, if any, effect on HR from drinking a couple of cups of coffee.
