Last weekend I ran the Miami Half Marathon in about 1:22:10. I would like to qualify for the Boston Marathon at the Eugene Marathon on the weekend of May 9.
Can I hit 2:40 by then? I have about 14 weeks to train. What do I need to do in my workouts to get to that point?
Some details
27 Male with one marathon under my belt (Dallas, 3:10 where i just fell to pieces after 20 and almost walked.)
5-6 half marathons with a PR of 1:21:10 (Houston 2016)
My weekly mileage is about 40/ week. I've held this baseline for about 10 weeks with some lesser running beforehand. I basically run about 5-7 miles per day five days a week and 10-12 on Saturdays with one rest day. I generally keep the pace between 7:15-7:30 / mile but was recently told I need to be imitating race pace a lot more if I want to meet my goal times.
I feel like I should be running faster than 1:22 if I'm running almost every single day. At Miami I felt like I was crushing it for the last 3 miles (6:02, 5:55, 6:01) but I really got caught up in the crowd during the beginning and couldn't escape for a mile.
Any training tips? I haven't taken an organized approach to running since high school cross country and 5k's don't really prep you for a marathon.
2:40 seems arbitrary, it stems from my desire to beat a friends PR and get closer to the 1:18 mark that I dream about in the half.
