UFC and boxing gloves have same padding

With boxers being specialists in a single fighting style and MMA fighters being generalists who have to be versed in several, an analogy to Mayweather/McGregor would be a triathlete going against a world-class runner in a distance race. Conor McGregor has about as much chance against Mayweather as a top triathlete would against Eliud Kipchoge in a 10k. In other words, none.

Big difference though, is that losing to Kipchoge wouldn't leave an adversary laying on the ground unconscious and bleeding.

Nah. Mayweather vs. McGregor in boxing is Mo Farah vs. Max King in the 5000. One guy is the greatest of his generation and one guy is a personable and marketable jack of all trades.

I've boxed & MMA'd in competitions. The padding is less thick in the 4oz gloves. Plus, 4oz allows a faster punch. Plus again, 4oz allows for many cleaner, non-partially blocked shots. Big, big difference.

It's the equivalent of a speedy rugby wing or an NFL player taking on Usain Bolt in a 100m track race. Almost no chance, but a small chance because McGregor could theoretically win if he lands just one punch on the sweet spot.

There is a also a bit of a size advantage for McGregor. Perhaps Mayweather wont take it seriously as well.

A counter punching MMA fighter against the most elusive and defensive boxer in history in a boxing fight with boxing gloves. Yet likely the biggest PPV earner in history.

How about a hypothetical. MacGregor gets 5 leg kicks total for the whole bout, otherwise boxing rules. Is he favourite now?

With Mayweather you know it will be a methodical, boring fight. And he'll win, because that is what he does.

Not so sure. I've grown to like Mayweather but I am worried about him fighting a trained martial artist. Mcgregor has trained in marial arts so he is able to punch through blocks and I don't know of any boxer who has that sort of power, not even Mike Tyson. Also McGreggor is riduclously mentally tough, the guy does not think he is going to lose anything - people thought he was going to get destroyed by Jose Also and yet McGreggor won in 10 seconds. Remember that Bruce Lee defeated boxers in boxing matches.

I could see MacGreggor winning this one in the first round. Hopefully no one is going to be seriously hurt.

Maywheater-Maidana 1st fight. It was very close. For me, it was a tie.

Joke of a fight. Mayweather never gets touched and hits him whenever he wants. Goes as long as he feels like.

There is footage of McGregor sparring C class boxers and he looks terrible. He's far, far from good enough to win an amateur championship much less beat the best boxer of his generation.

And for people that think he has a punchers chance you should know that Mayweather has fought, and been hit by, much harder punchers. And he's been fine.

This is slightly less of a joke than wwe. But just slightly.

It's free money, it would stupid to turn it down.

McGregor is simply good at marketing himself. He's not even a great MMA fighter. He's become champ in a watered down era and has 3 losses. He lost to journeyman Nate Diaz for crying out loud. Someone like GSP would wreck him. This won't be close.

No it's like if Jordan brought his own ref, cherry picked his opponent who had never played in high tops before and had to play in those shoes, and the rules said you get 20 pts for turnaround fadeaway jumpers from the corner, and the opponent has to play with only 1 hand.
