I post on these forums to promulgate my moral views and my philosophy on running. What I've seen in my life are runners come up through college and into the pros and make all the mistakes and sins people elsewhere in society make. All rat race and fitting in and no soul. They grabbed thousands of Facebook friends, they ignore and excuse the wickedness of their peers because they would look like player haters otherwise. They wh0red around and trampled other people. They worship false authorities and bestow their hopes upon corporate chaperones and championship events. They don't question a screwed up college system, social culture or job market.
They don't question the technology and structure of social media. They conform to majoritarian group behavior and institutions, without considering the costs and consequences. Nobody is producing the magnificent art and culture which the holy name of running requires. They don't care about the holy name of running. Hypocrites. They laugh at and scorn the revelations of running and marriage, the revelations of job reform, school reform, religious reform, media and art reform, technological vigilance, etc. My fellow runners trampled me and watched injustice done to me and lent no hand and repented not once.
Some small criticism towards elites and maybe the errant immature comment that shouldn't be taken seriously, this is not a priority concern. It pales in comparison to my suffering and the sin, shortcoming and shortchanging of the future I've seen in my lifetime.
I come to the message boards because there are gems of truly intelligent and sometimes moral, insightful people. String them together and that is a worthy community. The LRC forum board at its best also approximates the ideals and hopes of the early internet. It of course attracts people who were late to the social media show and have no clue what the Facebook was like from the beginning or what early Internet forums were like.
I don't take credit for elite's fast times. But they do not deserve credit for anything more than fast times. Running is supposed to be a foundry of infinite potential and glory. That brings together utopian communities, betters people, opens their bodies and minds up to great sublimes and thoughts. It should represent chivalry and friendship. Runners should look out for each other and should guard themselves against the vanities of the world. It is a refuge against the broken and false ways prevalent in other sports and our society. Thus, they should write philosophical tracts, be critical of culture and injustice, make monuments and works of art, capture the fruits they have won through running and do everything that would uphold the glory of fast running. The community is like the church, the body of Christ. Not everyone is expected to be perfect or cover all works by themselves, but between all the members a certain standard and threshold must be met. It is not being met. I will not give elites and runners credit for what they are not doing, I will not give undue adulation and worship of them. I will adore the great runner who lives up to the high office of glory.
