Oh, even more important: 6 weeks vacation, work at home when needed, start work between 7 and 9am (depends on mood), get off 8 hours later.
Lots of people in tech - thus begs the question - why do people always complain about outsourcing and offshoring? Seems to be a lot of high paying tech jobs looking at this post.
The big question though - is software development engaging and fun or is it a lot of code monkey, mind numbing, code editing?

You have lone shares in BP? Yeah, sell that sh*t and buy mutual funds. What are you doing invested in a single company?
There are bright times ahead for parts of the oil industry, but I would never buy individual shares.

$13k (this year) in earnings related to loan to a private company reflects a compounded annual return and has an indefinite term. One day this investment will make my salary appear tiny.

The big push to outsource development has been scaled back in recent years from my own experience. I think initially companies thought they could outsource their entire software development team off-shore and save millions. The reality is that it isn't feasible and the sustainable model is to have a strong on-site dev team that is supplemented with an off-shore team for doing the low-level programming.
What this means for people who are in dev now is that they are usually looked at as experts and are paid well for it.
Don't know where you are getting your info, but I'm definitely not trolling. I work with a digital media company out of California who takes a 10% percent cut of my revenue. The more content you have out there, the more money you make. I now have 3 years of content and many of my releases have millions of views. Income varies monthly by the number of views and time of the year the video is released. For example, ad revenue is higher per view in the months leading up to Christmas and less in January. This next year I expect to gross around $250k or more ifMy site continues to grow. For example, January, 2016 I only grossed a little over $9k - less views and ad revenue pays less. In contrast, in December I earned almost 22k - more views and Google pays higher ad rates at peak times. Doesn't matter if you think it is a troll post, it is not. There is goodmoney to be made if you have good content. Just because I have 700k subscribers doesn't mean they are the only ones who watch my channel. You aren't required to be a subscriber to watch - otherwise I wouldn't have millions of views on many videos. Subscribers receive notifications when a new video is released, but not required. Quantity and quality of your content are imperative for success - plus not taking your subscribers for granted. This is a troll post or he is vastly over stating the % coming from Advertising revenue. The common belief is if you get 500k-1mil followers or have 1mil-5mil views etc. it's amazing and you're rolling in it. Unfortunately Youtube (and by proxy google) pay pennies on the dollar compared to if you were bringing in that amount of traffic for a private advertiser. I can tell you for fact he is NOT making 100k+ on a channelg that has 700k subscribers. Even if they are extremely loyal and have an amazing CTR on ads.

Much of my income comes from ad revenue. I have almost 700k subscribers and fortunately, many are very loyal to my channel. I release 4 videos/week. The majority of my expenses come from travel and equipment.
In addition, I have sponsors who pay for some of my expenses and also have a clothing line and other accessories. Lastly, as my site has grown, I have requests from companies to make videos for them. Right now, I'm working on 4 five minute videos. Will be paid $25k for them. Will also be hosting a one hour special on a cable channel- not being paid a lot of money, but it's good exposure for my channel.
I do all my own filming, editing, social media, etc., so I have minimal expenses.

At first i thought it was a typo - but you just did it again. Why do you write "a Illinois"?
Same typo twice. I think I was going to write, "a different state."

My name is George Steph-an-op-o-lus.
I'm a white male. My boss is 3, ABCNews, Hilary Clinton and the honorable Barack Hussein Obama.
Per year I make $425,000
This is based on my very biased reporting and it began way before I asked Romney - at the orders of Barack - why he wanted to out-law Birth Control. Knowing that birth control and Abortion would be included in the ACA, affordable care act, aka Obama care/noncare.
Romney had not clue what I was talking about, as planned. He was blind-sided; an hence we got what we were after 4 more years of 1/3 of my boss, Barack Obama.
For that I probably got a bonus of $175,000 but I can't remember.
I wear a variety of shoe brands.
I run a 32:40 in the 5000
Dan Rather has nothing on me.
Hate it when people, who are continuously adding equity to their home, say they are living "paycheck to paycheck".YOU ARE NOT living paycheck to paycheck. You have a nice sum of money left over each month that you DECIDE to continue to invest in home ownership. paycheck to paycheck means you have nothing left at the end of the month to invest and if you lost your job you would be homeless or living in your parents basement.

This lengthy, defensive retort makes me think you're a little insecure about your earnings and thus trolling. You sound like a kid who has watched a few too many "make money online" hype videos and is trying to convince himself he can earn an income through ad revenue online. Sorry kiddo - I work in digital marketing and I can tell you it's not that easy. If you were to make 250k a year through youtube you would be in the 99.99 percentile of earners. Literally in the top 50 out of millions that post videos. I'm certain someone with those earnings and that celebrity status would not be getting defensive on a running forum and actually know some industry lingo. Nice try though - 5/10
