Early in person voting started today in Virginia.
It's strange that Biden is so heavily favored there.
Obama was the first Democrat presidential candidate to win Virginia on over 40 years.
Carter and Bill Clinton couldn't win there.
But now it's on a blue streak.
Anyway, votes are starting to be cast and that shortens the campaign season.
But just for the motivated voters who were un-moveable.
Early in person voting apparently gets counted before mail in ballots.
Here is a link that shows when each states processes their mail in ballots and when they start actually counting them.
No totals are available until after polls close.

In my state they don't start even processing the mail in votes until after the election and don't start counting them until 8 am the day after the election.
You won't see MD show blue on election day.
Swing states:
AZ: Tallying can begin 14 days before Election Day, but results may not be released before all precincts are reporting or one hour after the closing of polls on Election Day. Releasing information earlier is a felony.
FL - process and count votes 7 a.m. 22 days before Election Day. Releasing the results early is a felony.
So those votes will be in by the time polls close on election day.
GA: Get counted 7 a.m. on Election Day.
IA: Expects counting to be done by 10 pm election day
MI: They don't start processing them until election day. And they start counting them at the same time.
MN: Get processed a week ahead of time and counted after the polls close.
NC: Processed early. Counted two weeks prior to Election Day, provided the hour and place of counting is announced. Results shall not be announced before 7:30 p.m. on Election Day.
OH: Absentee ballots may be scanned prior to the election, but the count may not be disclosed prior to the closing of the polls.
PA: Processed and counted at 7am on Election Day, but the votes may not be recorded or published until after the polls close.
TX: Counting when the polls open on Election Day. In a jurisdiction with more than 100,000 people, counting can begin at the end of the early voting by personal appearance period.
WI: The processing and counting all happens on election day.
The reporting of results all depends on how well staffed and trained each polling area is.
I think Wednesday after the election will show results of the likely winner.
My feeling is that the vast majority of mail in votes will be in hand before election day.
