Yesterday I stated that the riots won't have much effect on the election unless they continue through the summer. And at first glance, I didn't think that a continuation was likely.
But after considering it a bit more, I'm not so sure. It's not that I think we will have continuous violence every day in major cities. But we have all the ingredients for major civil unrest similar to what has happened in Hong Kong.
The black community has been dumped on repeatedly for many years. When something bad happens, it hits immigrants, people of color, and indigenous people the hardest. The COVID crisis and the resulting economic crisis is no exception.
Now Tiny is stoking the flames of resentment while congress does almost nothing to help put food on the table. As the underclass becomes more desperate, they will turn to violence. The murder of George Floyd may merely be the spark that lit the flame.
Who does this benefit in the election? agip worries that Tiny benefits. I'm not so sure about that.
I don't think that Tiny can crack down on the violence without breeding more violence. I don't think Tiny is any more capable of mitigating civil unrest than he was at mitigating the epidemic. If events spin out of control it will just further demonstrate why we need Tiny out of there ASAP.
