I get the "joke" but the name of the dog is "Pit Bull" not "Pitt Bull." Good attempt though.

You don't know a lot about dogs and I would suggest you do a lot of reading.
A "pit bull" that has been properly trained, socialized and loved is like any other breed, or even better.
But.....but.....but.....Bartholomew NEVER bit anyone before!! We've only had him for a month and this was his first incident. Im sure he'll never do it again. He's a good dog. It was that stupid and terrible and (insert low IQ insult here) persons fault.

Yes! Better at suddenly switching into killing mode from its previously perfect behaviour.
People kill more children every day than the number of children killed by pitbulls in an entire year.

I have a buddy who got a Pit Bull about 20 years ago. I raised my eye, when he told me. "Oh no, he's the nicest mellowest dog."
The dog was great for about 5 years. One evening he, his wife and the dog were on the couch watching TV. Wife was eating ice cream. She put some on the spoon and passed it over to him to have a bite. The dog totally snapped on him as he was about to get the ice cream, latched on to his face and did a lot of damage. Dog never exhibited anything close to that behavior before. They were shocked.
They put the dog to sleep the next day. She was pregnant, and they didn't want anything to do with that dog and a newborn. Yep, he was a really sweet dog.
See, that's the funny thing about anecdotes; I have no reason to believe you're not making this up entirely. I just don't believe you.
My sister in law got a pit bull puppy. She is a total dog training nerd and could make the dog sit for a minute with a treat right in front of him. She takes the dog to her boyfriend's parent's farm in the country to let him run and play. As soon as they let the dog go, he runs after a lamb and kills it. Her 4 year old son loved the dog, but watching it rip open a little lamb's neck made it much easier to give the dog away.
Dog breeds have instincts that are very real. I have a border collie. She has never been around livestock and has never had any training for hearing. Yet, she will follow me into the bathroom in the morning and lie next to the tub while I take a shower. When walking her on a leash in crowds of people, she will zig zag back and forth. This is all herding instinct that has been in her bloodline for a few hundred years.
The same is true for pit bulls. They were originally bred for their ability in "bull baiting". They would put dogs in a pit with a bull and see whether the dogs could kill the bull. The pit bulls light body, strong jaws and "game" instinct (the ability to continue an attack despite serious injury) made it a big success in bull baiting. This instinct was revived and possibly worsened when pit bulls became the dog of choice for illicit dog fighting rings and for protection of drug stashes/manufacturing facilities in the ghetto. Combine that with terrible animal husbandry practices by pit bull puppy mill breeders, and you have a breed that is nothing more than a ticking time bomb.
So pit bulls are the only dogs that ever killed any kids?
Pit bull bites draw more media attention than bites by other breeds, stop buying into the media garbage.

Case closed. More pitbulls. Fewer people. Thank you.

Cool story, bro.
Tell me more.
no--they plus rottweilers account for something like 2/3 of dog bite deaths in this country every year.
Meanwhile... Huskies only found guilty of profanity.

He'll still get the New Years Eve gig.
60% of all people killed by dogs are killed by Pitbulls.
I've met some. They are indeed very sweet dogs. But they were bred for aggression and fighting. These are not inert lumps of clay, moulded by the owners. They have been selectively bred to have certain traits. You take all of these home w/ you when you get a Pitbull.
I was chased and nearly maimed by the pit bull of a net-confederate racist when I was a kid. Helps to have a head start and be much faster than the average human prey these beasts go after.
Was it the owner or the dog? Who cares? The two go together way too often, especially here in CA where the damn things are everywhere. I'm not sad when I hear about pits being used (and killed) in dog fighting rings, even though I know this is how they came to be so violent. It's in their nature now, and having had my experience of dogs devastated by that attack, I no longer tolerate the stars and bars or pit bulls.
