Doc
I went to the doctors appointment because the doctor is a personal friend of mine. He works for a well respected medical clinic here in town that specializes in sports medicine. Before working here, he was on the medical staff of a large division one university's athletic department (probably one of the 10 biggest sports schools in the country). Their clinic is very well known locally and is not taking new patients. I was able to arrange an appointment with my friend, after the advice from the girl's primary care (HMO, she got to spend 3 minutes with the doc) was, "You can run but I advise against it". Knowing the girl would choose to run if given the opportunity, I strongly wanted a second opinion.
I attended the appointment, because I had already looked at the x-rays. I teach anatomy and physiology, so I knew I would be able to accurately describe to the doctor, in a way the girls parents probably couldn't, exactly what was already known about the injury. Plus, her parents thought it would be a good idea if I was at the appointment.
As far as blood work, that is something I had not considered but will recommend it to the girl and her parents.
As far as me being qualified to design a protocol for rehab, that is debatable. I've been doing this for over 20 years and do hold an MS in exercise physiology. Based on my experience, and what I have observed in this particular girl, my hunch is that there are underlying biomechanical issues rather than Triad related issues (she is conscientious to have a snack ready to eat directly after practice, for instance. She mensturates regularly. She takes part in an on campus "leadership academy" that promotes healthy lifestyle/nutrition/sleep/digital heatlh. She is pretty educated and savvy about nutrition and follow the power back diet pretty strictly
Here is a copy of said diet. All of our kids get this. A fair number have said they follow it

Of course, I cannot truly know if they follow it or not. I don't go cook dinner for them, but I do see what they bring for lunch and post workout snacks. When we have morning workouts, they eat breakfast in my room, so I see what they eat then too.
