The Usual Suspects.
Tender Mercies (Robert Duvall in his Best Actor performance)
Shawshank Redemption
Just recently watched 'Captain Phillips' and it was pretty good too!
Hard to answer so I'll change the question - movies that affected me most by decade
ages
0-10 Star Wars
10-20 La Dolce Vita
20-30 Avalon
30-40 Hard. Maybe Spielberg's AI.
40-50: Probably Taymor's Across the Universe.
Nightcrawler was really good. Certainly not best of all time, but a good one to watch. I'll also second whiplash. If I had to pick my favoriteof all time, I'd probably go with troy.

Best movies you've ever seen?
Your best bet is to visit IMDB's website, they have a list of the top 250 movies ever produced per viewer rating (includes metascore of all critics as well so you're not relying on the opinions of 12 year olds with a smart phone).
My personal favorite is Inglorious Bastrds, best roll Brad Pitt ever played hands down. Really can't go wrong with any Tarantino movie though. I saw someone say Mad Max, if you're looking for something with quality effects production that films about as good as it gets. If you're into animated films Inside Out is a great one, definitely worth your time if you don't mind children's movies.
A few more of my favorites:
Moonrise Kindgom
Grandbudapest Hotel
Pulp Fiction (assuming every human being hasn't seen this)
Wolf of Wall Street (don't even watch if kids are in the house)
Children of Men
The Ninth Configuration
Fire Walk With Me
The Italian job - either version.
Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.
Good fun not the best but good.
Have to include four great black & white movies:
"Lolita" (Sue Lyon, James Mason & Peter Sellers)
"Streetcar Named Desire" (Marlon Brando & Vivian Leigh)
"Days of Wine and Roses" (Jack Lemon & Lee Remick)
"The Last Picture Show" (Ben Johnson, Timothy Bottoms, Jeff Bridges, Cybill Sheperd, Ellen Burstyn, Cloris Leachman, Randy Quaid)
Not for the sentimental.
Tracktown!
If you guys like Wrestling movies, well this new Disney film made in India should interest you:

Not the best, but very good ones are the Princess Bride and Whiplash
i was really surprised by whiplash. Great movie
Most folks missed Blood From The Mummy Tomb. Don't be one of them.
"Beautiful Girls" 1996. Lots of big name stars- Natalie Portman, Matt Dillon, Lauren Holly, Rosie O'Donnell, Tim Hutton, Uma Thurman, Michael Rapaport, Mira Sorvino
Tons of one liners. The most underrated movie of all time.
In no particular order
Taxi Driver -
Cinema Paradiso - Italian but good if you don't mind subtitles
Shawshank Redemption - takes 1st in rewatchability
Psycho
The Shining
Good Will Hunting

This was my favorite movie for a handful of years. Great flick, but not the best movie I've ever seen.
Not my favorite movie to watch. But the best I've seen is probably Deer Hunter. Writing, acting, drama, suspense, crazy scenes that stick with you for days. It's got it all.

Good point about Shawshank, one I never really thought about. I only re-watch my favorite movies about once a year, but Shawshank is a movie that I could watch like once a month or something. The story is told so well, similar to Forrest Gump for me.

Actually I forgot all these because they're so new.
