Who squanders / develops the most talent? Colorado, Stanford, Oregon or UCLA?

But, the results are biased. These are only guys who competed at Pac 12s. If you're trying to answer the question re: who squanders talent, you'd have to also look at the guys that went to these schools who didn't compete in Pac 12s.

Props to Coach Braden. He seems to be building that program back up despite the inherent location limitation. (nothing against westwood just that its not all that distance runner friendly)

What would be interesting is to see what school/coach is able to develop guys/girls who are not top HS kids. Coach Towne at Chico does a great job but I am sure there are several others.

Great point; injuries should be included as a stat.

I feel like this has already been done, but could a coach stat generator be created and used much in the way that i10-index is used for academic research performance?

Looking at the last 5 years Oregon has maybe 8-9 national Championship in Cross.indoors Outdoors UCLA zero Stanford zero and Colorado 3-4 in Cross?

I actually go to UCLA and there are a couple nice places to run as long as you don't mind running a couple miles out.

Colorado's 6 and 7 really stand out, especially when compared to Stanford's.

Colorado:

Sixth man -- 32. Reilly Friedman R-Fr. 4:21/9:21

Seventh Man -- 42. Christian Martin Jr. 4:26/9:36

Stanford:

Sixth man -- 34. Alex Ostberg So. 9th FL, 8:43 3200

Seventh Man -- 36. Blair Hurlock Jr. 8th FL, 8:58 3200

If you square the first term, you will come up with a positive number for a coach whose athletes all declined.

You should do this analysis for the women. The amount of extremely talented high school runners that have quit the team at Stanford is mind-boggling...

Would it be OK to State the university that destroys the most talent?

Stanford kids quit the team to work nearby at Google or a tech startup for a $200k salary. For many of them, why squander your intellect to run and struggle for 4-8 more years?

I also ran there! =) It's not bad... just not the best.

Just a comment on Colorado's #6 (Reilly Friedman). Those PR's are his junior year. He was a NXN qualifier his senior year, ran 15:05 on a legit XC course, but then got very sick and barely ran at all his senior spring track season. He was good for much faster than that but only ran maybe twice that spring. Still, he never would have been an 8:50 guy or even a 4:10-15 guy. Great job by Wetmore and Friedman.
