Over-reaching in training, over training, or possibly a systemic problem like glandular fever.
Rest for a couple of week before doing anything else.
It doesn't seem that hard to figure out that you may need a break. If you're in a such a rut like that, that you don't even enjoy running then take a few weeks off to refresh your body and refresh the urge to run again.
Sometimes a break like this is what your body needs and when you return to training you'll be ready to move up to the next level.
listen to these guys. take care of yourself, sleep A LOT, rest, and play GTA Vice City. Take your mind off of running. You'll be ready to rip in no time.
Mono?
I would suggest reading Tim Noakes' chapter on overtraining in his book "The Lore of Running." You can find it at most running and/or bookstores. The advice that has already been given is consistent with that of Noakes. Your symptoms match exactly those of overtraining syndrome...it sounds quite accute so you probably will need to take a couple of weeks off at least. Just go look at the book; it explains what overtraining is, how it happens, its physiological effects, how to fix it and how to prevent it in the future. If you check it out, you will thank yourself later. Good luck and remember that we have all been there before and you can get over it as long as you take care of yourself.
Oh and I realize that the advice to take a break is not what you want to hear, but, as hard as it will be, you need it. I tried to train through a bout of this back in '02 and I was trashed until I HAD to take a break the next spring for an injury. That break was the best thing that happened to my running (besides the training that I was finally able to do after I got better). Don't try to train through it, the longer you put off your break the longer you will be out. Good luck, I know how you feel...just don't be as pig headed as I was.
thanks for the advice guys. Your right taking a break isnt what i wanted to hear but if im being honest i had assumed that maybe it was over training. I tried telling myself i wasnt training hard ennough and that if i ran more or ran harder i would get fitter and then be able to run more and the loop continued. Do I need to take total rest, or will I be able to jog or attempt to run easy? I just keep thinking show me a runner who isnt tired...
Hey man, I am going through the exact same thing right now. Wasn't taking proper care of myself - was running 80-90+ miles/week but only sleeping about 5-6 hours/night for about 3 weeks straight. Probably wasn't eating enough either. I've dropped my mileage a lot, only done 30-40 miles/week for the last 3 and nothing too hard either, but it hasn't done a ton to change things. So I am just going to completely take the next 2-3 weeks off, and see where I am from that. After that, I'll probably just take it easy, and get back into shape for a few weeks. It's tough to take the time off, but you got to do what's best for your body. Just remember, probably any runner that really pushes himself/herself to be the best has overtrained at some point.
Another thing, you might want to go into the doctor and get checked out for mono, hypothyroidism, iron/ferritin, and some other stuff just to be on the safe side. Just my 2 cents.
After your rest make sure you vary your workouts daily runs more. There is a psychological component to overtraining too. Try to find some new trails and routes to keep your mind fresh and so you can't compare performance on easy days.

Do a 14 mile threshold run.
