If we compared track times, the Western men would definately be in the top 5(distance/xc only) in DI. They
have some quick guys that compete well vs. DI schools. I
think they would be a trophy contender every year. I doubt
that they would win, but right up there none the less.
They beat CU this year at CU, so I don't think they would have too tough of a problem.
How many times have I told you numbnuts to stay off these message boards?
hate to break it to you, but no they didn't...

They scored them as D1 and non-D1, but score them as one race:
Western 29
CU 30
Sorry to bash, but your 5-6th man ran around 26minutes for western state. Most D1 schools have that. I think Western State could compete, but to sit and make alligations that you could be top five is stupid, especially when your only evidence is a CU throw away meet that they train through quiet hard (while Western State makes it there big meet)....Look how far back Severy is....trust me he is not that bad. Its also pretty insulting to schools with very very good D1 programs who didn't make nationals such as Dartmouth who has there top 5 (on a harder course "Van Courtland") go under 25:20. Western State is obviously pretty good, but to say that they are in the top 5 in the country is wrong, till they can prove it in a real meet. Also if they were good enough to be D1....they would move the program to D1....Till that happens its all a bunch of what if's with no facts execpt for one junk meet against CU.
One junk meet that Western LOST, not won. Why some people continute to refuse to get it is beyond me.

You might want to consider that the Rocky Mtn. Shootout was run at 5,000+ feet in Boulder. To compare times from a race at sea level like Van Cortland and one in Boulder is completely rediculous. I'd say that 26 min in Boulder is worth a bit more than 26 min in New York. Think about it! And if you think that this Western trained specifically for this meet, you're completely clueless. They continually bring their best at the NCAA's each year, and to do this they can't gear up for a meet in Sept. or October...
Just give it a rest, this argument is older then coach Vandenbusche.
"KL" you are stupid. Do you really believe that a school can pick and choose what division each sport is in. The school has to decide what division they are in based on the ENTIRE sports program. And please, don't compare cross country times from two different courses at two different altitudes. Finally, you said they need to prove how good they are at a "real" meet. Well, they tried that too. The problem is when they tried to go to the Roy Griak meet, the meet director wouldn't let them in.
First of all there are many schools that have programs in different levels of D1. For example Marshall football is now D1, but the rest of their sports are not. URI football is not D1 but the rest of their sports are. UCONN had all D1 sports but football (till this year). Second Western State didn't get into the Griak meet because they aren¡¯t good enough to get in. The meet they did run against CU was a junk meet for CU (much more so than for western state....I imagine western state runs really hard there because that is the only time they can get recognized)....And I understand that boulder is at altitude, and I have run at both courses. Boulder's course is flat compared to Van Courtland.....though you do have a point it is hard to compare XC courses on any given day.....But this idea that Western State would be one of the top D1 schools is a farce. I do give you props for winning 4 years in a row though. That is impressive especially when western state doesn't get the top recruits.
KL, most D1 schools do NOT have a 5-6th man running 26flat. don't make me prove it to you.
What D1 schools are you looking at. I can't think of very many that don't have at least 6-7 26 minute five mile guys.
Yeah they do.....I know you can bust out George Washington, or maybe LSU, Alburn, gerogia State, St. Johns, UConn or Georgia Tech and there are plenty of others ....but if thats who you want to say your better than than I might agree with you....But it would be very hard for Western State to even make nationals in D1 never mind the top 5 every year. For God sakes Brown has 5 guys under 26 and they finished 5th in one of the worest conferences in the NE. Western State should be happy with there D2 crown.....just don't get such a big head....you guys can give what if's all day.....the reality of the situation is Western State is a good program that could compete in D1, but would have a very hard time doing so.
do you really think that there are 155 DI cross country schools in this country that can boast 5-6 guys at or under 26 on any given day? if you do, you're a psycho; there are 309 DI men's cross programs in the nation according to ncaa.org. For the record, i'm not one to such western's collective dick. rather, i'm one who can't stand ridculous statements. come on, man. do you really thing that western would have been hard pressed at all to MAKE dI nat's this year. seriously.
Perhaps there should be a college meet for the top runners from all divisions. UW Oshksosh would go to Wisconsin and perform well. Adams State had an impressive program as does Western State now. I am sure there are some DII programs with individual runners who would be competitive as well.
Or at least run all the meets on the same course, the same day. It could be fun to watch. Of course I really like XC...
finally, an opinion from someone who's not a fascist.
Honestly I don't think Western State would have made D1 nats. I don't think they would have been close....And yes as I said before most D1 schools easily have 5 guys under 26 (as the post before me said.....most D1 schools have 6-7 guys under 26....and the very top schools who go to nationals are deeper than that).....Western State is good....but they are no where as good as most people believe that are posting on this thread. D1 is a different world than D2.....and there is no proof other than a junk meet that supports your point at all. Maybe if you started dropping Kenyan names that western state has I would be more inclined to agree with you, but you don't even have that. Western State would be a good team in D1, a dyanasty in D2.
I don't know why you have to attack me to prove your point/or give evidence(calling me a "fascist", or earlier "stupid").....if that is your only arguement to my points then Western State must be worse than I even think they are.
