Wow. A ton of terrible advice on this thread. Residents are absolutely, 100% calling PD on people sleeping in cars near the beach.
Not too many conventional truck stops in SD, but, that would be the best advice. A walmart would not be shaded and hot, hot, hot.
Skid Row in L.A. is a nightmare.
Get your shit together, quick.
What kind of jerk would call the cops on someone sleeping in a car on public property near a public beach?
What kind of jerk would even snoop into a car enough to tell the guy was sleeping?
I got into a bad living situation in San Diego, and spent 3 weeks sleeping in my car. You'll be OK. I would recommend driving 10-15 minutes north to the Del Mar area and sleep in one of the lots fronting the beaches off N.Torrey Pines road. It's safe, and people mind their own business - no one will give you a second look if they see you sleeping in your car.
You may also find a similar spot further south probably in La Jolla as well.
The closer to the water, the better off you'll be (wealthier people, safer lots and less heat).
Best of luck man.

You must not live near this kind of situation. Do you have a large homeless population in your neighborhood?

What kind of jerk would throw rocks at a runner as he's minding his own business running down the street?
What kind of jerk would drive his car (or probably pickup truck) straight at a runner and force him off the road while honking and laughing?
Seriously, you don't think someone would f*ck with a homeless person just for the thrill of f*cking with a homeless person? I want to live wherever you live.

I just think that if you're living by the beach in San Diego, there's better things to do than call the police on a possibly homeless guy sleeping in his car.
One thing that might help is if you get some kind of surfing gear to make it seem like you're there for watersports.

Highland Park, Detroit?
Sounds like a lot of Obama voters on this thread who aren't thrilled with being fundamentally transformed.

But he'll be sleeping at night atleast 2 nights a week.
GOod luck
The many meaningful and positive responses to this post are refreshing. All the best to you OP. I can tell by your posts that you'll rebound quickly.
I would suggest Fiesta Island. It's open 4am to 10pm, 7 days a week. Since you work graveyard, its perfect for you. People stay there all the time in there car's and RV's. Good luck!!!!!
Thank's for ' the' apo' strophe's . '
I live in San Diego and one of the best spots would be to go around the Cardiff beach campsites not in the campsites because they cost money but I am sure you can find a spot to park your car near that area. At the campsite there are showers and restrooms,( you have to pay a small fee and get tokens for the showers). As well as a small Mexican restaurant and a convenience store. Me and my friends rent a place and camp there for a week or so every summer and have a blast the beach is perfect, the weather is always nice, and the facilities are good.
I call bullshit. All LR posters are captains of industry and reside in the 1% of the 1% of the 1%.

Lots of homeless people post here....I think not.
I find Coronado very nice and welcoming. Just get some Navy Veteran decals.
I am not from SD but here are some suggestions to your situation. I am sorry you are going through this.
1. Park in a mall that has inside parking. You will be in the shade and probably not be noticed by security.
2. Hwy rest stops are a good bet. Just keep in mind that if you park at one of those shade may be limited.
3. Lay down in a safe park a sleep under a tree. Make sure it is well populated and in a safe area.
4. You may also want to reach out to local churches. Many churches have members who are willing to open up their homes to people who need help. You may luck out and be able to find a room where you can sleep.
5. If you don't have one already consider getting a membership to Planet Fitness. For $19.99 a month you can use any of their locations. They have clean locker rooms with excellent showers. Good luck to you.
Save Up your $$$ and buy a Cargo Van !
I have bought almost 1 dozen Vans in my lifetime !
Insulate the inside with Styrofoam Sheets, duct tape it to walls between the Interior Support Beams that holds the Metal Shell together !
Buy a Drill, and Steel Screws that will drill INTO METAL !
Buy Wall Panelling, attach the wall paneling to those Interior Metal Support Beams on left and right walls !
Buy Felt from a fabric store, get 3 yards of it, black felt, preferrably. Its usually $8.00 per yard and buy Caulking Gun, and Caulking Glue from hardware store ! Glue the Metal Roof inside the back of the Van !
You will need help from a friend, lift the black felt (lengthwise) towards the ceiling, pat it down with your hands ! Slowly the glue will hold the felt in place, onto the ceiling ! You might need to pull apart a few areas of the felt to GLUE some more areas in the ceiling !
Metal Ceiling must be covered with fabric ! IF you don't CONDENSATION will build up, and water will drip from ceiling onto your head, and other body parts !
If you're gonna be homeless permanently, or you want to live off the grid, buy a Gas Powered Electric Generator, and a New Air Conditioner, hire a car mechanic, or metal shop to attach a 4 ft x 4 ft platform on your rear bumper, then mount your generator to that ! In fact you can build a Box Out of Steel, or other metal to put your generator inside ! You will need a lock to prevent someone from opening the metal box and from stealing your generator !
Cut a Hole on top of VAN and buy 2 or 3 Rubber Floor Mats to GLUE on top of your VAN to use as a SEALER, then mount the Air Conditioner A) Into The Hole Area, and B) edges of AC UNIT sits on the Rubber pieces, to keep rain water from seeping inside !
Again use Steel Screws to firmly attach the AC Unit to top of your Van, buy Gorilla Duct Tape to secure your electrical extension cable from AC Unit to the Generator ! You can even run another extension cable inside the Van for watching DVDS on a Laptop, or on a Flat Panel Television !
I mounted my Flat Screen onto the Wall Panelling inside my Van, but i used
part of wall where the Interior Support Beams are at, that way the Flat Screen is held firmly into place !
Do some research, and you can Buy or Build Solar Panels to the Roof of your Van !
BINGO you're off the grid !
Your post and exclamation points are scary!!!!!
I have been sleeping in my car for the past two and a half months in San Diego. I have googled it and am pretty sure it is not illegal to sleep in your car in the San Diego area. I sleep in the parking lot of the local library and it is right next to the firehouse so i feel safe. In two and a half months I have never been bothered and there are several other vehicles that are frequently parked there overnight. Hope this helps.
