This goes along with what I've heard of Canadian Healthcare from Canadians I know. If you have the flu it's fine. But if Shit hits the fan and and you have a serious health issue the US is a far superioir system unless you're super rich and can afford to go outside of the government system in Canada.
I've also heard that things that you'd like to have like the dermatology example here are a nightmare in the Canadian system.
You have to wait in Canada sometimes. This has the potential to be uncomfortable or worse. It is a short-coming of the system.
The advantage in general is you have a medical system which is not compensated if you need more care. So the amount of agency conflict is greatly reduced. Your family physician in Canada *is* on your side, and will not recommend needless care.
If you are poor, you are better off than in the US. You get care. If you have means, and are in Canada, you can always go to the US and pay. This, in my mind, is a better situation. I would rather have an agnostic physician/system, than a system driven by profit advising me how to spend my money on my health.
The primary drawback in Canada is wait-times. The primary drawback in the US is profit motive and the resultant agency conflict.
