I got locked out of my apartment and spent the night sleeping on a park bench

I've done solo climbing where I was sleeping in a tent on a mountain and was probably the only person around for 10+ miles.

Something is not adding up OP. Why didn't you call a friend and find someone who'd let you sleep on their couch? You know a guy who'd you be willing to let have a spare key, but not someone who'd let you crash on their couch for a few hours?

I don't know his route (I was 1 at the time), but I'd assume something like that.

Canada is still safe. The US is still safe. In fact, both are safer than they were at that time. I'd have more concerns about bears on that route than people.

OP here. Have access to my apartment now and want to clear some things up.

I am living in another part of the country for a few months so I don't know too many people here yet since I've only been here for a month. I also don't have a car while I'm here.

I do have a distant relative whose family lives around here and I met with them briefly (this is who I was thinking of giving my key to). I felt bad/weird calling them to ask them if I could crash at their place, because they would have had to drive to pick me up, and then dropped me off in the morning.

If this had happened in my home city, I would have had a lot of people I could have called up to ask if I could sleep over.
