He is running for Canada at the WXC Championships! How is he Canadian? I had never heard of him prior to Nationals, but after the race I was like who wast that! He is one large dude, but can obviously roll pretty good!

Does this dude ALWAYS get Number 328??
He's a dual citizen. He was born in Canada but moved to the US when he was very young. American parents make him American. Once he runs in the world champs, his US days are over for 3 years.
I'm glad he's on our team for France. Ain't nobody messin' with us at WXC!!!
He's not that much bigger than in 2003. You guys know how pictures can be deceiving. You can find pictures of runners at different points in the same race and see that they look huge in some and scrawny in others.....has to do with limb placement, etc. at the time the pics are snapped.
Think what a fine hockey player he would have been had he grown up in his native country!
You guys are hilarious ... you actually think he is on steroids? Damn that is funny.
If anything, the only steroids James takes is 24 PBRs each weekend ... THAT'S HOW WE DO IT!!!!!!!
What's PBR?
PBR = Pabst Blue Ribbon (one of the finest malted beverages around -- in some circles)
What events did he win in DII??
That should have said DIII, it was the 5k

Wow, it would be extremely hard to bulk up that quickly without steroids, even if he wasn't doing lots of running. Chances are he's doing drugs, which would be very unfortunate, putting his health at risk only so he can become a mediocre runner.
YOU'RE A MORON.
BMI is right. He looks 10 lbs. less in the last picture.

Thank you for clarifying that for the poor lost soul who had to ask.
Long live Cool Blue!
The second year that he won the 5k at D3 Nationals he was also second in the 10k.
And no doubt that the nectar of the gods (PBR) is the only supplement that he is on. Heaven help us all if they ever make that a banned substance.
D3 Pride at World Cross
I raced against this guy last year and he wasn't that big at all. He would be a better runner if he would stop lifting weights. He beat me for about two minutes. I had a very bad day, without taking credits for his performance.
Not that big? I suppose it is all relative, but how big are you?
And about the steroid speculation, Nielsen seems like too solid of a guy to mess with any of that. Let alone too smart of a guy...don't I recall that he is an Electrical Engineering PHD at Stanford?

The guy is getting a doctorate, why would he be stupid and takes drugs since his career path is certainly not running?
i do believe he was smaller in those photos from 2003. He was HUGE while running at UCSD, then when he joined the Stanford team they had him stop lifting weights... and he didn't really get any faster/slower when he lost weight. So i suppose he just decided to start lifting again. From the times i talked with him it seemed as if lifting were one of his passions along with running, surfing, drinking, and getting As.
i should have replaced "drinking" with "partying"
It's Mr. Chest!
