Just like his debut american record where he almost broke 8 you mean?

you can't dope down to a sub 8:10 steeple by racing under testing. You have to do a foreign, hard to reach altitude 'camp' with adequate heads up before testers arrive and enough time to cycle your meds for improvement. 8:22 doesn't cut it.

Nice try Evan. But let's be real here, without a few top level races you are not going to be ready for Rio. Nobody is scared by an 8:20 with a 62 last lap, that is child's play for the kenyans.

Two hard 8 flat efforts would prepare you well for Rio, as otherwise I see you getting smoked with 600 to go per usual. Mark my words this will happen unless you get in a few fast races.

hmm.... who to believe knows best, the guy who holds the American record and just became national champion (again), or the anonymous poster... I just can't decide!

Evan, you better listen to the OP and throw in some extra races in the next few weeks. You could spend that time focusing on properly peaking, or you could spend that time flying around the world, getting jet lagged, and running some random races that don't fit into your training plan.

When he almost broke 8, that was in Paris last year immediately after running a heat and final in the steeple at USATF the previous week.

If you want an intelligent discussion , then don't post a nonsensical argument.

The point is not to fly all over the world and ruin ur training.

The point of the post is that doing no racing up until the olympics is NOT the best plan. Race simulations in practice are great. But the real calousing that one needs to deal with the extreme discomfort of the steeple, especially at 8 flat type of pace, must be had by a couple of tune ups. This isn't an either / or argument. This is a discussion of the high value of including some racing in the next 5 weeks to augment and optimize full preparation for the olympics.

Yes he thought he peaked too early last year. But going with no racing from now on might swing the pendulum far in the other direction.

That was an awesome run. But personally I think that race either psyched him out or he got really bad advice because since then he's been focusing on running tactically and waiting for the kick. If he continues down that road, then he's not going to improve on that race, not that there's anything wrong with that but I think he could do a lot better.
